Cromwell Man Faces Burglary Charges

David A. Huffenberger, 39, of 9660 E. Pixie Parkway, Cromwell, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday and faces charges of burglary, a Level 4 felony; burglary, a Level 5 felony; theft, a Level 6 felony; two counts of auto theft, Level 6 felonies; and theft, a Class A misdemeanor.
His bond was set at $40,750.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed in Kosciusko Superior Court III on June 10, Kosciusko County Sheriff's deputy Joel Popenfoose was dispatched to a county residence where the homeowner reported he had recently left the home, and upon returning observed a lock box containing the key to his home missing. The homeowner also reported a television, coffeemaker and an aluminum rowboat were gone. The value of the items is listed at more than $750.
Deputy Shawn Castillo was dispatched to Sudlow's Pier Shop on May 25, where owner John Heckaman said someone entered his business by taking out a window and took three sets of keys for three different vehicles. A 2002 Ford Van Bering was missing from the business lot, and tools were missing from another employee's toolbox.
Heckaman told police he had recently filed a police report and fired an employee who was making threats. That employee was Huffenberger.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Castillo searched the area close to Huffenberger's residence and found the stolen vehicle in the woods.
On May 28, deputy Chris Rager was dispatched back to Sudlow's Pier Shop in reference to another stolen vehicle. Heckaman said the missing vehicle was a shop truck and that Huffenberger had previously been in possession of the keys and would have known which keys belonged to the truck.
On June 3, police were notified the stolen truck was seen at Stuckman Salvage. An employee there told police an individual had been driving the truck and brought in scrap three separate times. Police obtained and observed receipts with Huffenberger's name on them. The stolen rowboat was listed as part of one of the scrap loads.
Employees of Stuckman Salvage were separately provided a photo line-up to identify the individual who was driving the stolen truck and scrapped the stolen aluminum boat. Both identified Huffenberger in the line-up.
Huffenberger was picked up in Noble County.
