Three From Pierceton Woods Face Multiple Charges

Those teenagers are Bronson Filler, 18, Fort Wayne; Davante Alexander, 17, of 27 Pequignot Drive, Pierceton; and Cody Scheeringa, 17, LaPorte, and will all be charged as adults, according to Pierceton Police Chief Tim Sammons.
Filler appeared in Allen County Superior Court IV on Wednesday last week to face a level 3 felony charge of robbery resulting in bodily injury; his jury trial is set for 9 a.m. Nov. 13 there. Filler also faces a level 6 felony charge of auto theft in Kosciusko County Superior Court II; a warrant was issued for his arrest for that charge Thursday. He is currently incarcerated in the Allen County Jail with no bond set.
Scheeringa also appeared in Allen County Superior Court IV on Wednesday last week to face a level 3 felony charge of robbery resulting in bodily injury; his jury trial is set for 9 a.m. Sept. 4 there. He is currently incarcerated in the Allen County Jail with no bond set.
No charges have been filed against Alexander as of today. He is incarcerated in the Allen County Jail with no bond set.
According to the investigation report from the Pierceton Police, on May 16 at 4:36 a.m. Pierceton officer Matt Owens responded to a report of a stolen pickup truck. The truck was a white 2003 Ford Ranger belonging to a Pierceton man who told police he left the keys in the ignition overnight.
During the same time frame, Owens was investigating three male teenagers who were reported missing from Pierceton Woods Academy.
At 1:59 p.m. May 16, the Allen County Dispatch Center received a 911 call about a strong-arm robbery in progress at 12110 School St., Harlan.
"When officers arrived, the victim was located with a large amount of blood on her face and clothing. The victim reported that she and her two sons, ages 5 and 3, were at the Harlan Public Park sitting at the picnic table eating a meal. The suspects approached her from behind and began hitting her in the face and head, causing her to fall to the ground. The victim stated to police that the suspects continued to hit her, and she could hear and see her sons crying and screaming. The victim stated that she was assaulted to the point that she defecated in her pants,” according to the Pierceton investigation report.
According to the Allen County Police Department incident report, "The victim said she looked at her car and saw two of the suspects in her car and the third getting into the car and the suspects had her large purse. She stood up and ran toward her car and before the suspects could start the engine, all three exited the car and ran on foot."
FWPD officer Adam Gebhart arrived in the area and located three male teenagers matching the description given, walking southbound on Stopher Road near Applegate Drive. He approached the boys and they all ran into a nearby bean field and laid down to avoid being seen.
FWPD Officer Kevin Surface and his K-9 partner Mako arrived and Surface announced, "Police. Stand up with your hands in the air or I will release the K-9 and you will get bit.” The three teens immediately stood up.
As Gebhart was separating the suspects, Scheeringa "made an excited utterance of, 'Shouldn't have done that s***!'"
In the back of the police car, Alexander told the officer he "felt bad for the lady that it happened in front of her kids.” He could not believe how hard Filler was hitting her.
On May 17, the stolen Ford Ranger was found in the Lima Road Walmart parking lot. Filler denied stealing the truck to police, but video footage from Walmart's security cameras show the truck pulling into the parking lot and all three suspects exiting the vehicle.
"These are the types of cases we deal with here," Sammons told the Times-Union. "There are some troubled kids living at Pierceton Woods. To have a woman beat up to that point and in front of her kids … and it all started with a stolen truck from Pierceton."
