A fundraiser will be July 27 at the Kosciusko County Fairgrounds to help pay for a local woman’s funeral expenses.

Taiya Hope Mullins, 20, Claypool, 20, June 4 in Riley Hospital For Children in Indianapolis.

The benefit will help Terry and Deborah Kreft, who were Mullins’ legal guardians for the last 19 years, pay off her funeral expenses, Donata Grimm, Mullins’ aunt, said.

The main event will be a motorcycle ride.

Registration will start at 10 a.m., with a cost of $20 for a single rider and $25 for a rider with a passenger, according to the flyer provided by Grimm.

The ride, expected to last an hour, will begin at noon and will go to Pierceton, take Ind. 13 to Ind. 14, go through Silver Lake and take Ind. 15 to the end the ride back at the fairgrounds.

The riders will stop at the Silver Lake Fire Department as a pit stop and the fire department will have water for them.

The fundraiser also will feature a silent auction starting at noon and go throughout the event. Grimm stated at least 20 businesses from Warsaw and Winona Lake have donated items for the auction, such as gift cards. Other objects include mugs, gift baskets, bracelets from MudLOVE and other items.

There also will be a pulled pork dinner after the riders return.

The Hall Family, southern gospel group from Harvest Community Church, Warsaw, will perform at the fundraiser after the dinner, about 2 or 3 p.m.

One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the funeral expenses, Grimm said. Anything beyond funeral costs will go to the Krefts as Terry had to retire early after a battle with cancer.

Grimm said the idea for the fundraiser came from her son, Greg, starting on the day Mullins died. He wanted to do something special for his cousin, as well as give back to the Krefts who are his grandparents.

Grimm stated the family built off Greg’s idea.
