Temperatures tonight are expected to fall to somewhere between minus 10 and minus 20. Wind chills will be between minus 30 and minus 45, according to the National Weather Service.

Winds could reach 20 mph with occasional gusts of 30 mph, the weather service said.

Lake effect snow is expected for areas closer to South Bend and Lake Michigan, but small accumulations are expected in Kosciusko County where blowing and drifting snow is will likely continue as far south as U.S. 24 through Thursday, the weather service said.

Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory also reminds residents that all space heaters must be kept at least 3 feet away from all combustible materials, such as curtains and furniture. When filling kerosene heaters, residents should fill them outside of their home. Heaters should never be left unaccompanied.  All faucets should be left running slowly to prevent frozen pipes that may burst.

Under the forecasted conditions, bare skin can sustain frostbite within minutes and hypothermia can occur quickly.

The city encourages everyone to stay indoors, if possible, and keep skin covered in several layers of clothing when going outside.

The city also suggests residents check on family members and neighbors and only go outdoors if absolutely necessary.
