BOURBON – The Triton High School Athletic Department is recommending Rodney Younis to the Triton Board of Trustees as the new varsity football coach, replacing Ron Brown.

Younis is no stranger to the Triton football program, spending the previous four seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Trojans. Younis also served as the varsity coach for 12 seasons from 2001 to 2012.

During his first stint as the head coach of the Trojans, Younis totaled 42 wins, making him the all-time winningest coach in school history. In 2007 his team won the program’s first sectional championship, and the Trojans repeated as sectional champions in 2008.

Younis was also named the Indiana Football Coaches Association Region II Class A Coach of the Year in 2007.

"Rodney Younis is a proven leader," said Triton High School Athletic Director Mason McIntyre.

"We are excited to welcome Coach Younis back as our head coach and are confident that he will continue to instill the qualities that will help our young men become winners both on and off the field."

Younis inherits a team that is coming off a 9-4 season, the first nine-win season is school history.  The 2018 Trojans also won the program’s third sectional championship.

Younis had his first meeting with the team this morning where he outlined his high expectations for the team.

Brown stepped down in December as Triton’s varsity coach to take a job with Class 3A Elwood.

Brown spent four seasons at Triton and compiled a 21-25 record.

Brown led the Trojans to two wins in each of his first two seasons, before an eight-win campaign in 2017 and the school-record nine wins in 2018.
