A Warsaw man faces domestic battery charges after allegedly dragging his girlfriend across the room and preventing her from calling 911.

Alberto Castillo, 48, of 3014 Frontage Road, #225, Warsaw, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 11:06 p.m. Dec. 28 for domestic battery and interfering in the reporting of a crime.

Court documents filed Wednesday list the charges against him as domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a level 6 felony; domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor; and interfering with the reporting of a crime, a Class A misdemeanor.

On Dec. 28, Warsaw Police officer Chris Brown responded to a 911 hang-up call at the Warsaw Lodge. He spoke with the victim, who said she and her boyfriend – Castillo – were arguing when it escalated to the point she feared for her safety.

She twice attempted to call 911 but Castillo stopped her.

The first time she tried to call 911, Castillo grabbed the phone and disconnected the call. The second time, he dragged her across the floor, causing the phone to disconnect. As a result of the confrontation, the victim had rug burns on her forearms and both elbows. She also had cuts on her hand.

Present during the altercation was a child under 16. The child said the victim tried to call the police, but Castillo hung up the phone and dragged the victim across the floor.

The defendant was released on his own recognizance and ordered to appear for an initial hearing at 1 p.m. today.

A no contact order was entered on Wednesday.
