Traffic Stop Leads To 2-County Chase, Arrest

A Claypool woman led police on a vehicle pursuit back and forth between Noble and Kosciusko counties Thursday night before being talked into giving herself up.

At about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, an Indiana State Police trooper made a traffic stop in Ligonier near the Elkhart/Noble county line on or near U.S. 6, according to ISP Public Information Officer Sgt. Ted Bohner.

The woman – later identified as Katlynn Leanne Craft, 20, of 9611 S. CR 100E, Claypool – provided the trooper with false identification. While he was checking her ID, she took off.

The pursuit went about 40 minutes between Kosciusko and Noble counties, with speeds reaching 80 mph. Bohner said that during most of the chase, however, speeds were 40 to 45 mph.

At one point, officers were able to identify who the driver was and Kosciusko County Sheriff Kyle Dukes called her because he knew her. He talked her into stopping at the Pride gas station on North Turkey Creek Road.

She was arrested, then booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 10:37 p.m. Thursday.

Bohner said Craft had several warrants out for her arrest – two for possession of methamphetamines, one for failure to appear and one for possession of cocaine. New charges filed against her include possession of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia, resisting law enforcement, reckless driving and false ID statements.

Her preliminary bond was set at $5,250.

Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) are for people over the age of 70.5 years old. Unlike other distributions, which are taxed at ordinary income tax rates, Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) allow for a tax-free distribution from an IRA, provided that the distribution goes directly to a qualified charity.
