Recent court documents reveal more information regarding the Warsaw man who had a standoff with police last week while in possession of a stolen crossbow.

Dylan Ray Stimeling, 24, of 3501 W. CR 100N, Warsaw, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:13 p.m. Feb. 12 for theft and resisting law enforcement. His preliminary bond was set at $750. He has been released on his own recognizance, with an initial hearing set for 1 p.m. March 1.

Court documents filed Friday list the charges against him as theft, a Class A misdemeanor, and resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor.

At about 2:32 p.m. Feb. 12, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office was notified by a man that his stepson, Stimeling, stole his crossbow and left the residence walking with it.

Indiana Conservation Officer Matt Maher arrived at the location and reported to Central Dispatch that Stimeling still had the crossbow and wanted him to shoot him. Maher told dispatch that he was following Stimeling and trying to get him to stop and they were walking through the soccer fields at the City County Athletic Complex, 3215 W. Old 30, Warsaw.

When KCSO deputy Matthew Holderman arrived, he noticed Maher following Stimeling across the field and giving him commands to stop. Holderman drove his patrol vehicle with the lights activated close to where Maher and Stimeling were.

When Holderman got out of his patrol vehicle, Stimeling had his hands down to his sides. Holderman told Stimeling to stop and get on the ground four times, but Stimeling continued to walk toward Holderman as he was taking steps backward. Holderman then deployed his Taser, and Stimeling slowly fell to the ground on his back.

After five seconds of Taser deployment, Maher and Holderman rolled Stimeling onto his back and began to place him in custody. Stimeling refused to put his hands behind his back and was pulling away from officers when they placed his arms and hands behind his back. Holderman found a folding knife in Stimeling’s front left pocket and a pair of brass knuckles in his front right pocket.

While officers were searching Stimeling, he made many statements wanting them to shoot him. He also made statements saying that he is already dead. Maher asked Stimeling who the crossbow belonged to and he said it was his stepdad’s. Maher then asked him what he was going to do with it and he said he was going to do whatever he wanted with it.

Stimeling was then taken to the KCJ.

The stepdad said Stimeling had stolen the crossbow to buy methamphetamine. The crossbow was valued at $500.
