UPLAND – The strong late season play for Grace College’s men’s basketball team continued on Saturday with a 79-67 win at Taylor University.

The Lancers (15-15, 5-13 Crossroads League) have now won four of their last six games to close out the regular season.

Grace will compete in the NCCAA National Championships, hosted by Grace in March. The Lancers will await word about a potential NCCAA regional game.

The Lancers were efficient on offense. Grace shot 50 percent from the floor compared to 41 percent for the Trojans (11-19, 5-13 CL). Grace also committed a season-low five turnovers while passing out 19 assists.

Logan Godfrey made 10 of 16 shot attempts, leading all players with 24 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks, and he added a steal and two assists.

Neither team led by more than five points before halftime.

The lead changed hands 12 times in the first half as the sides traded baskets.

Grace had its biggest lead of the half in the final minutes. Charlie Warner hit a three-pointer, and Braxton Linville then scored for a 35-31 advantage.

But Taylor drilled consecutive three-pointers to regain the lead and end the half with a 37-35 advantage.

Minutes into the second half, the Lancers made the first significant run of the game. Grace erupted on a 14-2 charge to go ahead 54-44 with 11:29 remaining. Warner had six points during that spurt.

Lady Lancers Fall To No. 8 Taylor

UPLAND – Grace’s women’s basketball team could not stop an onslaught of three-pointers on Saturday, falling 92-66 at No. 8 Taylor University.

The Trojans (25-4, 16-2 Crossroads League) needed a miraculous, last-second shot to beat Grace in their previous matchup. But on Saturday, Taylor’s long-range shooting carried the day. Taylor made an eye-popping 20 of 34 (59 percent) from beyond the arc and coasted to a win.

The Lady Lancers (16-14, 10-8 CL), on the other hand, shot 34 percent from the floor and 65 percent from the foul line.

With the loss, Grace ends the regular season as the No. 6 seed in the league standings. The Lady Lancers will play at third seed Indiana Wesleyan on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals of the Crossroads League Tournament.

Grace still managed to keep within range and trailed 27-22. Five points from Kyannah Stull and four by Hostetler and Brooke Treadway helped Grace stay close.

The Lady Lancers’ defense held Taylor in check to start to second quarter. The Trojans did not score a point for nearly four minutes, and Grace took advantage to go ahead 28-27 after a triple by Hostetler.

But the Trojans controlled the rest of the quarter, outscoring Grace 17-4 over the final 6:15 and Taylor led 44-32 at halftime.

Grace’s deficit quickly grew in the third quarter, trailing by 22 midway through the period. The Lady Lancers were never able to make a significant push after that juncture and suffered the road loss to end the regular season.

Brooke Sugg scored four points with five assists for the Lady Lancers, Kaylie Warble had four points and five boards, and Melissa Goss netted three points. Lexi Minix had three points and three rebounds, and Pam Miller chipped in two points, four rebounds and two assists.
