Man Arrested Who Police Believe Robbed Pierceton Bank

PIERCETON – The man police believed to have robbed Lake City Bank Monday is in custody.

Joshua R. Mort, 22, of 702 W. Tower St., Pierceton, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 4:13 a.m. Friday and faces charges of robbery with a deadly weapon, a Level 3 felony, and theft, a Level 6 felony.

Police responded to an armed robbery at the bank around 1:45 p.m. Monday, two hours after a bank in downtown Warsaw was hit by a robber.

Pierceton Police Marshal Tim Sammons said the capture of Mort is due to a search warrant being executed at Mort’s residence  by Pierceton police and the Kosciusko County S.W.A.T. Team.

“I’m very pleased with how quickly the investigation unfolded and the sequence of social media tips received from the public and from Crime Stoppers,” Sammons said. “Contrary to what the public thinks, there is an awesome working relationship between the local law enforcement agencies in Kosciusko County. Better than ever. Everyone working together is how crime is solved.”

The investigation is still ongoing between PPD, Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Sammons said. KCSO and Warsaw Police Department also are assisting.

On Wednesday, Det. Brad Kellar, Warsaw Police Department Public Information Officer, said WPD has no update as to the string of three bank robberies that have happened within the past six weeks.

“Unfortunately, no,” Kellar said. “We have nothing to work with yet.”

Anyone with information is asked about those robberies is asked to call WPD at 574-372-9515 and ask to speak with the detective division.
