Utilities manager Jayne Alger told the North Webster Town Council on Tuesday that they’re receiving callouts a couple times a week – always at “ungodly hours” – and when they get to the lift station the pump is clogged with wipes.
She said they don’t have problems with the other lift stations, which have grinders. Lift station 2, also known as JBs, needs new grinders, Alger said. She is researching grinders and will make a recommendation to the town council soon.
Alger said after the meeting that it would help if people would not flush wipes.
Also on Tuesday, council President Lisa Strombeck said the council is still open for suggestions for the K21 grant of up to $200,000.
She said she emailed Rich Haddad of K21 and he sent her a list of key conditions and steps to follow to apply for the grant. She also said she will be meeting with K21 on Jan. 7 to go over the steps for applying for the funds.
The money must be used for health and wellness opportunities that will benefit the entire community.
Strombeck encouraged anyone with ideas for the grant to contact her, town council members Dave Waliczek or Dan Thystrup, or clerk-treasurer Betsy Luce. “We don’t want to turn anybody away,” she said.
In other business:
• Candy Smythe of the North Webster Police Department shared Police Chief Greg Church’s request for 250 hours of overtime in 2020 for emergency situations. That was the same number of hours requested for 2019.
The next council meeting will be at 6 p.m. Jan. 23 in the community center.
