WINONA LAKE – The Winona Literary Club met Wednesday at the Robin Hood Community Center with 22 members present. The group was entertained with Christmas music by Terry and Sharon White on two pianos. They presented an array of Christmas melodies.
Judy Broderick gave the group some reading ideas to enjoy during the winter. First, she introduced the group to a book called “The Corfu Trilogy” (three stories) by Gerald Durrell. These are true stories about his life on the island in the years before World War ll. Next she shared the writings of Haywood Smith called “12 Sacred Traditions of Mother's-in-Law.” It contained rules, ideas and tried and true tips on how to be a magnificent mother-in-law.
Refreshments were served.
DAR Meets In Warsaw
Agnes Pruyn Chapman Daughters of the Amercan Revolution met at noon Nov. 26 at Richard’s Restaurant, Warsaw, with 10 members and two guests present.
Regent Kathy Gawthrop called the meeting to order by reading a Thanksgiving prayer before the DAR opening rituals and read the president general’s message. Paulene Holderman gave the national defense report on the first women to vote.
The program was presented by Suzie Light from the Kosciusko County Community Foundation. Our county’s foundation is one of 94 in Indiana and was started in 1968 with assets of $871. They were originally used for scholarships. In 1992, the foundation started holding endowment funds to be used for changing community needs. They now hold 482 funds with total assets for $62 million. Funds that are given by an individual or organization for a specific use can be changed in the future to something in the same field if the original specific use is gone.
Gawthrop collected the DAR conservation worksheets which she will combine for the national report. Kathy then read a conservation minute from the National Audubon Society and a Native American Minute report.
The chapter discussed having more evening meetings with thoughts that during Daylight Saving Time would be a good time for evening meetings.
The next meeting will be at noon Jan. 28 at Richard’s Restaurant. The program will be presented by Rhonda Beck, DAR state organizing secretary. DAR membership is open to all women who can prove an ancestor fought in or gave aid to the American Revolutionary War. Bridge At SPEC In North Webster
NORTH WEBSTER – Bridge at SPEC was played Tuesday. Mary Prescott came in first and Jerry Hetrick came in second. The group did not play Thursday.
Wednesday Night Bridge
Wednesday Night Bridge played Wednesday. The group had five tables with the following winners: David Haines, Joyce Latta, Judy Stewart, Sharon Tuttle, Peggy Wilson and Grant Magner. John and Janet Wagley are host and hostess for December. The next meeting is on Wednesday. The group would like to invite interested bridge players to play with them. Four Seasons Ladies Bridge
The Four Seasons Ladies Bridge met Wednesday at Grace Village. The winners were Sondra Dicken, Barbara Calhan, Peg Zimmerman and Virginia Horn.
Grace Thursday Bridge
Grace Thursday Bridge met Thursday. Karyl Smith was hostess. The winners were Carol Freeman, Smith and Carolyn Young.
