Kosciusko County Teen Court student volunteers were sworn in by Superior Court I Judge David Cates Monday night in the courtroom. Teen court volunteers are high school students who hear about 100 cases of first-time, low-risk offenses committed by juveniles. “It’s a court of teens, by teens, for teens,” Teen Court Director Betsey Vastbinder said. Cates hailed the program as keeping kids out of the system. “They’re making a significant contribution to the community,” he said. The students held their first court Monday night. Pictured (L to R) are, back row: Madelyn Long, Lila Fierek, Will Graney, Brianne Checketts, Regan Brouwer, Carly Hastings; and front row: Megan White, Brianna Feldman, Anna Morgan and Neharika Upadhyay.
