Warsaw, Triton Receive Votes In AP FB Poll

INDIANAPOLIS – Warsaw and Triton received votes in the Asssociated Press Indiana High School Football preseason poll, released Tuesday.

Warsaw received four votes in the Class 6A poll, the 17th highest in the class. Triton had 10 votes in the 1A poll, good for the 15th highest total.

The complete poll appears on page 3A.



Westview Doubles Up Wawasee


SYRACUSE – Chris Pena had both of Wawasee’s goals in its 4-2 non-conference boys soccer loss to Westview Tuesday night.

Pena scored the first goal a mere 19 seconds into the game, and Westview got the equalizer 21 seconds later. Jace Minor assisted on Pena’s second goal, and Evan Dippon had a penalty-kick save for Wawasee.

The junior varsity contest went to Wawasee 1-0, with Alec Begler scoring the lone goal.

Wawasee will host South Bend Riley on Thursday.



Rain Prompts Area Postponements

Rain caused several postponements of Times-Union area high school athletic events Tuesday evening. The list as of press time includes:

Boys Tennis

• Fort Wayne Northrop at Whitko, makeup date to be determined.

• John Glenn at Triton, makeup TBD.

• Tippecanoe Valley at Bremen, moved to 4:30 p.m. today.

Girls Soccer

• Garrett at Whitko, makeup TBD.

Boys Soccer

• Lakeland Christian at Elkhart Christian, moved to Sept. 7, time TBD.

• Argos at Warsaw, moved to 6:30 p.m. today.

Girls Golf

• Northfield at Whitko, moved to 4:30 p.m. Monday, becomes Three Rivers Conference 3-way match with Wabash at Sycamore Golf Club, North Manchester.

Peru def. Manchester 25-24, 18-25, 15-12
