Life In Christ Is Like A Train, Depend On Bible, Not Feelings

I was waiting on a train to pass in Warsaw (hard to believe!) when I remembered something from the “4 Spiritual Laws,” a booklet printed by Campus Crusade for Christ since 1965.  One section talks about how our life in Christ is like a train.  It says, “Do not depend on feelings. The promise of God’s Word, the Bible - not our feelings - is our authority. The Christian lives by faith (trust) in the trustworthiness of God Himself and His Word. This train diagram illustrates the relationship among fact (God and His Word), faith (our trust in God and His Word) and feeling (the result of our faith and obedience). (Read John 14:21.) The train will run with or without the caboose. However, it would be useless to attempt to pull the train by the caboose. In the same way, as Christians, we do not depend on feelings or emotions, but we place our faith (trust) in the trustworthiness of God and the promises of His Word.” 

The problem in our age is people react with their feelings and try to push things along without real force.  The Word of God is our engine and its truth leads and powers the follower of Christ, exercising faith in Him. I smiled as the last car passed. 

Trains don’t have cabooses anymore! Only a little light that shines from a box, a vivid representation that our feelings should be small compared to truth and trust.
