Lady Tigers Open Golf Season With Win At Plymouth; Valley 7th

PLYMOUTH – Sophomore Maria Frazzetta led Warsaw’s girls golf team, shooting an 88, missing a playoff for medalist honors by one shot, and leading the Tigers to the Plymouth Invitational team championship Tuesday at Pretty Lake Golf Club.
Tippecanoe Valley also opened its season at the tournament, finishing seventh with a score of 458.
Frazzetta’s score was good for third place individually. Grayson Kilburn and Sydney Lancaster were in a tie for fifth place, each carding scores of 93. Delaney Byron shot a 103 and Brooklyn Fitzgerald a 109 to round out the team scoring.
Warsaw’s 377 team score was six shots better than runner-up South Bend St. Joseph. John Glenn was third at 418, edging Elkhart Memorial by two shots.
Kaydence Mellott posted a 101 for Tippecanoe Valley, good for a tie for 10th place overall. Madelyn Weaver was next for the Vikings with a 104, Molly Moriarty was at 123, Cheney Canada at 130 and Hestinea Kim at 143.
St. Joseph’s Katie Kloska won a playoff over Elkhart Memorial’s Courtney King for medalist honors. Each posted an 87.
Warsaw will play in the NorthWood Invitational on Thursday in Nappanee, with first tee scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
Valley will host Pioneer for a dual match at 5 p.m. Monday at Rochester’s Round Barn Golf Club. Caston was scheduled to make to play, but announced Tuesday it didn’t have enough players to field a team. It wasn’t clear whether any individuals from the Comets will play.
Wawasee 4th, Squires Compete At Huntington North
HUNTINGTON – Wawa-see’s girls golf team finished fourth, and Manchester sent three athletes to the Huntington North Invita-tional Tuesday at Norwood Golf Club.
Warrior Belle Brunner began her season with a 50 on her first nine holes, the back nine at Norwood, before carding a career-best 9-hole score of 35 over the second half of her round. Her 85 led Wawasee.
Tate Cowan also carded an 85, followed by Valerie Haessig at 98, Ava Harker at 99 and Jadison Rostochak at 104.
Manchester’s Sam Kissel posted an 89, Alissa Bickerstaff was at 106 and Delani Henderson at 139.
“It was good to see our mindset on the second straight day of 18-hole competitions,” said Squire coach Josh Troyer. “I felt like we hit the ball better at times, and showed some steps in the right direction.”
Troyer added the program should be able to field a full team beginning next week.
Wawasee hosts Columbia City today at South Shore Golf Club in Syracuse. Manchester hosts its invitational, a 9-hole tourney, at 5 p.m. Thursday at Sycamore Golf Club in North Manchester.
