Nappanee Man Sentenced In Child Molesting Case

A Nappanee man was sentenced Thursday on one count of child molesting, a level 4 felony.

According to court documents, Lester Chupp, 72, of 13778 N. CR 950W, Nappanee, accepted a plea deal and was sentenced to six years in prison.

He received three days good time credit toward his sentence and the court suspended two years of his sentence with him being placed on probation.

Chupp was also ordered to pay $50 per week in court ordered financial obligations, obtain an evaluation at Bowen Center,  follow any recommended treatment or therapy and execute necessary documents for disclosure of information to his probation officer.

A no contact order was also put into place, which according to court documents, means Chupp is not to have contact with the victim except through an attorney while on probation. The order includes harassment, stalking, intimidation, threats and physical force. In the no contact order, Chupp is not to have firearms, deadly weapons or ammunition in his possession. The order remains in effect during Chupp’s sentence and probation.

According to the probable cause affidavit, Chupp was charged with fondling or touching a child under the age of 14.
