IHSAA Announces Class Changes, Sectional Assignments

INDIANAPOLIS – Indiana High School Athletic Association on Monday approved sectional assignments in six team sports for the next two school years.
Football
Different assignments were made in Class 5A and 6A for a handful of schools. Elkhart Central and Elkhart Memorial will compete as 5A schools this fall, but when they consolidate into Elkhart High School for the 2020-21 school year, they will be a 6A school.
Valparaiso, the smallest 6A school, will move to 5A for the 2020 postseason.
In the Times-Union coverage area, Warsaw will be in 6A Sectional 3 with Carroll, Homestead and Noblesville.
Wawasee will be in 4A Sectional 19 with Angola, Columbia City, DeKalb, East Noble and Leo, along with fellow Northern Lakes Conference members Northridge and NorthWood.
Tippecanoe Valley is in 3A Sectional 26 with Garrett, John Glenn, Jimtown, Lakeland, Mishawaka Marian, South Bend Washington and West Noble.
Manchester is in 2A Sectional 34 with Bremen, Delphi, Lewis Cass and LaVille (moves up from 1A) along with fellow Three Rivers Conference schools Rochester and Wabash.
Also joining Sectional 34 is Pioneer, winners of six straight 1A sectionals, with four state championship game appearances in the last five years, two-time defending state champions, owners of a 30-game win streak and winners of 44 of its last 45 games. The Panthers’ last loss came in the 2016 state title game.
Whitko plays in 2A Sectional 35 with Bluffton, Central Noble, Eastside, Fairfield, Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, Prairie Heights and Woodlan.
Triton will defend its sectional championship in Class 1A Sectional 44. Also in that sectional are Adams Central, Caston, Churubusco, Fremont, North Miami, Northfield and Southwood.
Basketball & Volleyball
Warsaw will be in 4A Sectional 4 with Penn, Elkhart Central and NLC members Concord, Elkhart Memorial, Goshen and Northridge.
The same schools will also compete in the 3A Sectional 4 boys soccer tournament. In 2020, all four sectionals will go to a six-team format after the Elkhart schools consolidate.
Tippecanoe Valley and Wawasee will compete in 3A Sectional 21 with Lakeland, NorthWood and West Noble.
In the girls basketball sectional, a tough sectional gets tougher with Central Noble moving up from Class 2A after a pair of semistate appearances with a state title in 2018 in between.
Manchester and Whitko boys basketball will play in 2A Sectional 36 with Adams Central, Bluffton, Eastside, Fort Wayne Canterbury and South Adams. The same schools make up volleyball’s 2A Sectional 38.

The Cougar boys basketball team will compete in 1A Sectional 53 with Smith Academy, North Miami, Northfield, Southern Wells and Southwood. LCA’s girls hoops is in the same sectional, but Smith Academy doesn’t field a team in that sport.
Triton’s volleyball and both hoops teams will be in six-team 1A Sectional 50 with Argos, Culver Community, LaCrosse, Oregon-Davis and West Central.
Soccer
Warsaw’s girls are in 4A Sectional 7 along with three Fort Wayne-area schools (South Side, Wayne and Homestead) and Huntington North.
Wawasee’s girls are in 2A Sectional 20 with Angola, DeKalb, Lakeland, NorthWood and West Noble. The boys are in the same sectional number with Angola, Garrett, Lakeland, NorthWood and West Noble.
