Warriors 4th, Whitko 8th, Manchester 11th At Wawasee Invitational

SYRACUSE – Wawasee’s “gold” team finished fourth behind Chesterton, North-Wood and Plymouth at Saturday’s Wawasee Invitational boys golf tournament at South Shore Golf Club. Whitko was eighth and Manchester 12th in the event.

The Warriors’ Zach Leedy was third in the competition for medalist honors, shooting a 77. Chesterton’s Devin Trusty was first at 74, and Taylor Weigand of NorthWood was second with a 76.

Evan Dippon posted an 81 for the Warriors. Other Wawasee scores were Dillon Drake, 82; Victor Tayagua, 89; and Caden Welty, 95.

Wawasee’s “green” team consisted of Tyler Bosstick, 90; Aiden Johnson, 100; Jared Krugman, 101; Brad Brian, 101; and Riley Menzie, 112.

Cade Bechtold paced Whitko with an 84. Other Wildcat scores were Kylar Bryant, 89; Jonathan Strayer, 94; Dale Reiff, 98; and Storm Baldridge, 130.

Scores for Manchester were not available at press time.

Today, Manchester returns to South Shore for the third time in five days to take on host West Noble. Whitko will join Manchester for a Three Rivers Conference match with Wabash at Honeywell Golf Club Tuesday. Wawasee will host Tippecanoe Valley at South Shore Wednesday.



Valley Wins Only Match In Tourney

WABASH – Tippecanoe Valley won its only girls tennis match against the tournament hosts before the Wabash Invitational was rained out. The Vikings took a 4-1 win over Wabash.

Singles players Hanna Parson and Gigi Engstrand and the doubles team of Haley Baker and Kaitlin Neese all won tiebreakers for the Vikings, while the other doubles duo of Tiphanie Hodge and Makenna Bradley won their match in straight sets.

The Vikings will host Rochester in Three Rivers Conference competition today.

Falcons Trim Valley In Extras

WALKERTON – Tanner Trippiedi, Tucker Shull and Lucas Walters had two hits each for Tippecanoe Valley in its 6-4, 9-inning loss to John Glenn in the first game of a non-conference baseball doubleheader Saturday.

Game two was rained out.

Layne Prater, Drake Montelongo, Wes Melanson and Payton Mills added a hit each for the Vikings.

Valley will host Three Rivers Conference foe Manchester today.



Tigers 15th At Peru

PERU – Cold and rainy weather didn’t sit well with Warsaw’s boys golf team as they finished 15th with a team score of 351 in a challenging 17-team field at the Hall of Fame Invite in Peru at Rock Hollow Golf Club Saturday.

Warsaw was led by Cal Hoskins, who shot a 78, good enough for 16th place. Zach LaLonde followed him with an 87. Other varsity players competing were Chase Byron, Seth Hildebrand and Tucker Carlile.

The Tiger junior varsity finished 10th of 18 teams in the Lafayette Jefferson Invite at Battleground Golf Course with a team score of 369.

Warsaw was led by Lewis Turley with an 88. Other Tiger players competing were Jack Yeager, Ben Brander, Will Hall and Mason Whitaker.

Warsaw will next play as host at the Joe Harris Classic on Tuesday at Rozella Ford Golf Course.



Tigers Drop Twinbill

HUNTINGTON – Warsaw dropped both ends of a non-conference softball doubleheader, 10-7 and 12-0 in five innings at Huntington North Saturday.

The Tigers had just four hits in game one, but took advantage of eight walks to keep the game close. Katie Anderson, Avery Sleeth and Hudson Bolinger each drove in a run for Warsaw.

Warsaw had just two hits in the second game.

The Tigers (4-10) resume Northern Lakes Conference play at Elkhart Memorial today.



Warsaw Falls Twice

LEO – Warsaw’s baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader Saturday, 5-2 and 9-8 to host Leo in non-conference play.

In the opener, Ian Glogovsky, Liam Patton, Matt Shoemaker, Jacob Hutcher-son, Aaron Greene and Josh Ehrlinger all had one hit for the Tigers. Mason Reber took the loss for the Tigers. He gave up four runs, although only one was earned, and struck out three.

The Tigers came back from an early 3-0 deficit in the second game to forge a tie, then used a five-run fourth inning to take an 8-6 lead. Leo scored three times in the bottom of the seventh for the walk-off win.

Glogovsky and Patton had two hits each in the second game.

The Tigers will host Elkhart Memorial in Northern Lakes Conference play today.



Turner, Knights Double Up Warriors

KENDALLVILLE – Host East Noble got a huge game from Carly Turner on its way to doubling up Wawasee 16-8 in a non-conference softball game Saturday.

Turner had five hits, including a home run, and drove in six runs. The Knights  collected 24 hits in all.

Faith Swihart had three hits, including two home runs, five RBIs and scored twice for Wawasee. Delaney Hare had a triple among her three hits for the Warriors.

Now 8-7 on the season, Wawasee travels to Concord for a Northern Lakes Conference game today.



Big Deficit Early Hurts Valley In Loss

AKRON – Visiting Fort Wayne Concordia was spotted a 10-0 lead by Tippecanoe Valley in the opening game of the Vikings’ softball tournament Saturday. Valley came back to make it interesting before falling 15-11.

Sydney Howard had two hits and scored a pair of runs for the Vikings. Alex Gomez and Kirstyn Yoder had three hits and two RBIs each in the comeback effort.

Valley (3-9) will host Manchester in Three Rivers Conference play today.

Whitko Game Incomplete

In the second game of the tourney, Whitko fell 12-9 to Northwestern, then rain washed out the rest of the day.

Guinny Garr doubled twice and Kayce Sims homered for the Wildcats.

It had not yet been determined if the tournament will be finished.

Whitko will travel to Wabash for a TRC game today.



Events Canceled

Several area high school sporting events scheduled for Saturday were postponed or canceled.

• Triton’s girls tennis team began play at the Concord Invitational but was unable to finish. At No. 2 doubles, Haley Hooley and Madison Davis won their match for the lone Trojan victory.

It wasn’t known if the tournament would be concluded at some point.

• Triton’s non-conference softball game with visiting NorthWood was called off Saturday, and rescheduled for 5 p.m. May 17.

• Whitko’s baseball game with visiting Bluffton was called off. No word if or when the game will be rescheduled.
