WINONA LAKE – In the home finale, Grace’s baseball team suffered a 12-2 defeat to Goshen on Saturday.

The nine-inning game was moved up to 10 a.m. to avoid the oncoming storm, and the contest was completed mere minutes before the rain started pouring.

The teams split a doubleheader on Friday night, but Goshen clinched the series with its win on Saturday. The Maple Leafs also secured the No. 7 seed in next week’s Crossroads League Tournament, while the Lancers (14-25, 10-17 CL) will be the No. 8 seed.

Grace is competing in the CL Tournament for the first time since 2014. More information on next week’s schedule will be available in the coming days.

The Maple Leafs (18-27, 12-15 CL) were dominant at the plate on Saturday morning. Goshen pounded out four home runs and held a 15-7 advantage in hits.

Grace was only able to score in one inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Mitchell Enyart led off with a single, and Ethan Brooks tripled to bring him in. On the next at-bat, Sam Newkirk hit a deep fly ball to allow Brooks to race home.

Goshen scored in every inning from the second to the sixth, a stretch which accounted for 10 of their 12 runs.

Aaron Voirol threw the first 4 1/3 innings from the mound, and Joey Peebles tossed the final 4 2/3 innings.

Enyart hit 2 for 3 with a run, Brooks was 2 for 4 with a run and an RBI, and Wyatt Buzbee hit 1 for 2 off the bench.
