Warsaw Tennis Wins Road Match Over Concordia

FORT WAYNE – Warsaw’s girls tennis team got wins from No. 3 singles and both doubles positions to take a 3-2 non-conference win at Fort Wayne Concordia Friday evening.

Rachel Boyle won her singles match 6-4, 6-1. At No. 1 doubles, Regan Merchant and Rachel Yeager won in straight sets, as did the No. 2 duo of Maddie Ray and Amy Herendeen.

In junior varsity play, the Tigers split 10 matches with Concordia. Winners for Warsaw were Gracie Lewis and Katrielle Rodgers in singles play, and doubles teams of Annie Burnett & Mikayla Roller, Audrey Turley & Jaya Panicker and Peri Britton & Kat Josells.

Next up for Warsaw is another non-conference match at 5 p.m. Monday when Fort Wayne Canterbury comes to town.



Vikings Best Maconaquah

AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley got the decisive win from doubles team Tiphanie Hodge and Makeena Bradley, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 over Maconaquah’s Trysta Gustason and Kaitlin Stapleton, which game the Vikings a 3-2 over the Braves in a Three Rivers Conference girls tennis match Friday.

GiGi Engstrand won in straight sets in singles play for Valley, with the doubles duo of Haley Baker and Kaitlin Neese did likewise in their doubles match.

In junior varsity action, Vikings Mallory Durkes and the doubles teams of Kennedie Brooks & Andie Schwenger and Kaydee Shepherd & Brianna Feldman won.

The Vikings are scheduled to play in the Wabash Invitational today.

Whitko Boys Get Track Wins, Girls Second To Wabash

SOUTH WHITLEY – RJ Patrick won two events and was on a winning relay team, helping Whitko to a 82-75 Three Rivers Conference boys track win over Wabash Friday night.

The Whitko girls fell 64.5 - 60.5 to Wabash.

Lakeland Christian Academy also competed in the meet.

Patrick won the pole vault and high jump, and along with Zack Freel, Sean Blaine and Dominick Moseley, won the 4x100 relay. Other winners for the Wildcats were Cameron Sapp in the discus, Gage Howard in the shot put, Isaiah Pierce in the long jump, Blaine in the 100 and Freel in the 200.

Freel teamed with Ashton Schuh, Pierce and Clay Ebbinghouse to win the 4x400.

Lady Wildcat winners were Stephanie Miller in the long jump, Lauren Hollenbaugh in the high jump, Lily Spurlin in the 1,600 and Jordan Courter in the 400. Whitko also had wins in the 4x800 and 4x100 relays.

Karlie Wise of LCA won the 300 hurdles and finished second in the high jump. Liza Schmitt was second in the 100 hurdles for the Lady Cougars.

The Cougars’ Matt Helton won the 400 and was third in the 100. Kehei Nagasaki was third in the 3,200.

The Wildcats will compete in the Kelly Relays at Concord High School in Elkhart Friday. Lakeland Christian will compete in the Elkhart Christian Invitational at Goshen College Tuesday.



Warriors Come Back To Down RedHawks

GOSHEN – Wawasee scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at six, then pushed across four runs in the eighth inning to hold off host Goshen 10-7 in a Northern Lakes Conference baseball game Friday evening.

Carter Woody went the distance and got the win for the Warriors, walking two and striking out four in his eight innings of work. Levi Brown tripled and drove in a run, Parker Young had a pair of doubles among his three hits, with Gabe Moore and Tony Garcia scoring three runs each.

The Warrior junior varsity won 4-3 over Goshen. Nate Bess and Gavin Wilson each had a double and a RBI in the winning cause.

Wawasee will travel to Concord for a NLC game Monday.



Warsaw Doubles Concord

The Warsaw Tigers got up early and held on to beat Concord 8-4 at Tiger Field in a Northern Lakes Conference baseball game Friday.

The scoring started in the second inning, where the Tigers plated five runs with two ground ball outs and the help of a Concord walk, hit by pitch, and error. They would add two more runs in the fourth as Noah Burgh connected on a two-run home run over the centerfield fence.

Burgh was also the winning pitcher for Warsaw. He went six innings, allowing two runs on four hits and striking out eight. Joey Springer threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Jacob Hutcherson, Alex Light, and Aaron Greene all added a hit in the game for the Tigers.

Warsaw will play a non-conference doubleheader at Leo today.



Warriors Softball Blanked

SYRACUSE – Madison Mottern doubled and singled in two at-bats for Wawasee, but the Warriors were shut out 7-0 by visiting Goshen in a Northern Lakes Conference softball game Friday evening.

Wawasee is scheduled to travel to Kendallville today to take on East Noble in a non-conference matchup.

The following is a list of high school sporting events in the Times-Union coverage area with schedule changes from Friday and today:
