Northridge Edges Wawasee

MIDDLEBURY – Peyton Rookstool and Elizabeth Kleopher each won three-set matches at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, for Wawasee in its 3-2 Northern Lakes Conference girls tennis loss at Northridge Tuesday in the Warriors’ first match with interim head coach Lynette Jackson at the helm.

Wawasee (6-2 overall, 1-2 NLC) will take on host Warsaw Thursday.



Lady Tigers Tame NorthWood, Wawasee

NAPPANEE – Warsaw’s girls track team picked up a pair of Northern Lakes Conference wins Tuesday, 98-29 over Wawasee and 101-31 over NorthWood.

The Panters took a 67-65 win over Wawasee.

Winners for Warsaw were Remi Beckham in the 400, Wini Barnett in the 800, Adree Beckham in the 1,600, Taylor Gunter in the 3,200, Marin Hart in the 200 hurdles, Michaela Buriff in the 300 hurdles and Grayson Kilburn in the high jump.

Jada Parzynot won the pole vault and long jump for Wawasee, and Sara Pritchard took first in the shot put and discus.



Vikings Fall In TRC Tennis

PERU – Tippecanoe Valley lost its initial 2019 Three Rivers Conference girls tennis match 3-2 at Peru Tuesday.

For the Vikings it was the doubles team of Tiphanie Hodge and Makenna Bradley that starred again. They overcame a first set loss, and ran their season record as a doubles team to 6-1 with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 triumph over Molly Gray and Madisyn Carrico.

Hannah Engstrand also recovered to pick up the other Viking point with a dramatic 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 win over Celia Vallez-Rando in a match that lasted over two hours. Engstrand's comeback gave the newcomer her second match win of the season. Mackenzie Costello, Hannah Parson and the doubles team of Kaitlin Neese and Haley Baker, fell short in their respective matches, but gave it their best effort.

On the junior varsity side, Mallory Durkes won both her matches by the score of 8-1, knocking off Emily Campos and Mimi Brinkman. Durkes is undefeated thus far on the season with a mark of 5-0.

In other JV action, Vikings Peyton Oldham (8-1), and the doubles team of Andie Schwenger and Kennedie Brooks (8-1) picked up victories.

The Vikings (4-3 overall) travel to Walkerton to face John Glenn today.



Cavemen Down Wawasee

SYRACUSE – After taking a 2-0 lead over visiting Mishawaka, Wawasee’s baseball team gave up nine unanswered runs in a 9-3 non-conference loss at Warrior Field Tuesday.

Kameron Salazar had two hits, acored a run and drove in a run for the Warriors. Carter Woody had a hit and a pair of runs batted in.

Wawasee (5-5) plays a Northern Lakes Conference game at Plymouth today.
