The Lady Lancers dropped their team score by 11 strokes between rounds on Monday at Prairie View Golf Club, carding 335 and 324 in their two rounds of golf. Grace’s second-round 324 tied a program record for this tournament.
Grace is in a log-jam in the middle of the leaderboard. Only 10 strokes separate third-place Bethel from seventh-place Marian. The Lady Lancers are just three shots out of third and hold a five-shot lead over Indiana Wesleyan, who is in fifth.
Sydney Abbott was Grace’s steadiest golfer on day one, shooting identical rounds of 80 to place 12th overall.
Lauren Keiser was next in line for Grace. She shot an 84 in the opening round, then she dropped her score to 79 for Grace’s best round of the day.
Anna Marshall (84-81) and Rachel Harvey (87-84) each lowered their score by three strokes, and Kara Godsey’s 11-stroke improvement (98-87) was the biggest jump of the day for Grace.
“Playing 36 holes in one day is a difficult task, and I could not be more pleased with our effort! We played by far our best golf of the spring today,” said Grace head coach Denny Duncan. “Sydney has been a rock for us all spring, but we got excellent performances from the entire team. I can’t wait to see how we do in the final round!”
The championship will end on today with a final round in Carmel.
