SYRACUSE – WHME Channel 46 Sports out of South Bend, via its Twitter feed, confirmed Friday the Wawasee boys basketball coaching position has been vacated.

The station’s Tweet said “ (We) Have confirmation that Jon Everingham has not been renewed as Wawasee basketball coach after three seasons.”

Everingham had a trio of six-win seasons leading the Warriors, going 6-18 in 2016-17 and 6-17 the last two seasons.

Wawasee won its sectional openers in 2017 and 2019, and ended a 42-game Northern Lakes Conference losing skid with a 28-20 win at Warsaw Dec. 15, 2017. The Warriors have won two conference games in nine seasons.

The Times-Union reached out to Athletic Director Cory Schutz, who deferred to Wawasee Superintendent Dr. Tom Edington, who did not return a request for comment. Everingham declined to speak on the record Friday evening.

The boys basketball vacancy is the latest in a recent string of coaching changes in the athletic program. Track coach Scott Lancaster is now at Goshen, softball coach Mike Barger stepped down last summer, football coach Mike Eshbach stepped down immediately after the end of the 2018 season, and swimming coach Julie Robinson was fired in March amid a lawsuit with the school corporation.
