Goshen sophomore Reece Fisher was the game’s star, finishing four of five at the plate with six RBIs and three runs scored. Fisher hit two home runs in the game, with one coming in the first and another in the fifth inning. Sophomore Dominick Reyes also shined, going three for four with one RBI. Skylar Reyes, Austin Cane, and Colin Turner also recorded multiple hits for the Redhawks.
Junior pitcher Skylar Reyes earned the win for Goshen as he held the Tigers off for five innings. Reyes threw for nine strikeouts and allowed only three runs on the game. Senior reliever Kaleb Nine retired the final three Warsaw batters to seal the Goshen victory.
Despite a slow night on offense, several of Warsaw’s players flashed their potential. Senior Liam Patton went two for two with two walks, but never reached home. Patton also hit a double. Senior Matthew Shoemaker and first baseman Jacob Hutcherson also recorded multiple hits for the Tigers. Gage Lyon starred as a pinch runner, stealing three bases in a limited role. Warsaw’s offense was clamped against the Goshen pitching. The offense finished with nine hits and ten strikeouts on the night.
Warsaw senior Ian Glogovsky took the loss for Warsaw but deserves only a share of the blame. While Glogovsky allowed nine runs on thirteen hits, he also struck out four Goshen batters in four innings. His team also committed four errors while he was on the mound. Joey Springer relieved Glogovsky in the fifth, allowing four more runs on three hits in the final two frames. Springer and Glogovsky both played efficiently on offense, combining for five drawn walks.
Warsaw’s defense was inconsistent in their third straight loss. After allowing 20 runs in their first five games, the Tigers have allowed 38 runs in the three games since. They have also averaged just under five errors per game in that span.
Goshen erupted on offense to secure the win. The Redhawks hit multiple home runs in a game for the first time since a 2010 game against Topeka. JJ Dubois’ squad also finished with 16 runs, a season high.
Warsaw (3-5) will attempt to right the ship when they host Plymouth Friday at 5:30. Goshen (4-6) will look to continue their hot streak at Elkhart Memorial Friday at 5:30.
