Valley Scores Early In Win Over Culver Academies
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley plated three runs in the first inning on its way to a 4-1 non-conference softball win over visiting Culver Academies Tuesday.
Amy Baca led the game off with a bunt single and advanced to second on a single by Brayden Banky. Sydney Howard drove in Baca with a single of her own one out later. Kirsten Prater then drove Baney and Howard home with a single to right field. Valley answered an Eagle run in the second when Baney singled home Sydney Rhamey who was on the base paths as a courtesy runner for Kayleena Agnew.
Mayde Fear and the Viking defense settled in after a couple of early inning scares, limiting the Eagles to one run over the last five frames. Fear earned the win, striking out two, walking one and scattering four hits, two of which came in the first inning.
Valley remains at home Wednesday for a Three Rivers Conference game with Maconaquah.
Warrior Golf Downs Visiting Cougars
SYRACUSE – Paced by Evan Dippon and Tyler Bosstick, each shooting a 39, Wawasee beat Central Noble 162-210 in a non-conference boys golf match at South Shore Golf Club Tuesday.
Zach Leedy had a 40 for Wawasee, followed by Dillon Drake at 44 and Jared Krugman at 48.
Junior varsity scores for Wawasee included Victor Tayagua and Riley Menzie, 42 each; Caden Welty, 44; Caleb Clevenger, 47 and Clayton Firestone, 64.
The Warriors will next compete at the Whitko Invitational at Sycamore Golf Club in North Manchester on Saturday.
Vikings Beat Lancers
AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley girls tennis picked up its second straight home win in as many days, beating LaVille 4-1 in non-conference play Tuesday night.
Tiphanie Hodge and Makenna Bradley won in doubles play, beating Lancers Bre Daniels and Ally Maenhout 6-4, 6-0. Vikings Kaitlin Neese and Haley Baker needed just 13 games to beat LaVille’s Mackenzie Stephenson and Grace Carlisle in the other doubles match.
GiGi Engstrand won her first singles match of the season for Valley, beating Allison Gadacz 6-3, 7-5.
The most exciting win for Valley came from Hannah Parson, who lost the first 10 games of her match before making a comeback to win 0-6, 7-5, 6-2 over Taylor Garrett.
Valley will open Three Rivers Conference play Thursday, hosting Whitko.
Tigers Fall To Eagles
COLUMBIA CITY – Host Columbia City scored four times in the second inning and plated another pair of runs in the fourth before erupting for eight tallies in the sixth frame to invoke the run rule and take a 14-3 non-conference softball win over visiting Warsaw Tuesday.
Avery Sleeth provided a bright spot for the Tigers, with a pair of hits in as many at-bats, including a home run.
Warsaw travels to Goshen for a Northern Lakes Conference game Wednesday.
Flying Jets Ground Squires
NORTH MANCHESTER – Adams Central broke a scoreless tie in the fourth inning while holding Manchester to one run in the Squires 4-1 non-conference softball loss Tuesday.
Torina Ruckel doubled and scored on an Emma Evans single. Emma West and Kindra Stetzel also had hits for the home team.
Manchester will travel to Peru for a Three Rivers Conference game today.
Wawasee Streak Ends
SYRACUSE – Wawasee’s girls tennis team lost for the first time this season, 4-1 to Concord in Northern Lakes Conference play today.
Elizabeth Kleopfer was the Warriors’ lone winner, taking a third-set tiebreaker.
“Even though we ultimately lost, I thought our girls did a great job, fought throughout and made great progress against a really, really good, state-ranked team,” Wawasee coach Shane Stahley said.
Wawasee will take a 6-1 overall record into its match at Manchester Thursday.
Top-Ranked Pioneer SB No-Hits Trojans
ROYAL CENTER – The Class 1A No. 1 Pioneer softball team conceded nothing to a young Triton squad, scoring early and often while not allowing the Trojans a hit in its 23-0, five inning Hoosier Lakes Athletic Conference win Tuesday.
Triton will play a non-conference game at Manchester Thursday.
