By Josh Neuhart-
The Lancers (12-16) were held to two hits in the loss, but Grace still managed to hold a lead until the sixth inning.
Wednesday’s nine-inning game started slowly. The Warriors (23-13) scored the game’s first run in the second inning and could have scored more. But RJ Snyder ended the inning by throwing out a potential run at the plate for the third out.
In the third, Grace tagged out yet another runner at the plate as the Warriors left three baserunners stranded.
The Lancers jumped ahead in the fourth inning, needing just one hit to score a pair. Xavier Harris walked and was still at first with two outs. Chris Griffin stepped up to the plate, and the reigning Crossroads League Player of the Week sent a 1-2 pitch over the centerfield fence for a two-run home run.
Grace’s 2-1 lead held until the sixth inning. The Warriors plated twice thanks to a pair of errors and a balk by Grace, and Indiana Tech never trailed again.
The Lancers could not move a baserunner past first base for the final five frames, allowing the Warriors to pull away for a 6-2 win.
Griffin and Jacob Sapp had the only two hits for Grace, and Harris had two walks and a run scored.
Scottie Clark threw 3 1/3 innings as the starter, allowing one run on six hits with two strikeouts.
The Lancers remain on the road this weekend with a three-game series at Mt. Vernon Nazarene on Friday and Saturday.
