HS Sports Recaps: Valley, Triton Tennis Rained Out Before Finish

BOURBON – Tippecanoe Valley was leading host Triton 2-1 in a girls tennis match Wednesday before play was stopped due to rain.

At No. 1 singles, the Trojans’ Molly McFarland downed Mackenzie Costello 6-0, 6-0. The Vikings had winners at No. 3 singles, where Ivy Powell beat Gigi Engstrand 6-1, 6-0 and at No. 2 doubles, with Haley Baker and Kaitlin Neese taking a 6-1, 6-2 decision over Haley Hooley and Madison Davis.

The remaining two matches were suspended in the third set, and the teams waited 15 minutes before play was called for the night. At No. 2 singles, Valley’s Hannah Parson leads Maddie Rirchison 3-6, 6-4, 3-2 and at No. 1 doubles, the Vikings Tiphanie Hodge and Makenna Bradley are leading Emma Hepler and Lexia Hostrawser of Triton 1-6, 6-4, 3-1.

Since it is a non-conference match, it will not necessarily have to be concluded, and an announcement on whether or when the match will conclude is forthcoming.

Triton will take on NorthWood at 4:30 p.m. today in Nappanee. The Vikings will open the home portion of their schedule tonight, with Knox visiting at 5:30.



Manchester Blanks Eagles

CHURUBUSCO – Manchester’s softball team scored seven runs in the last two innings, pulling away for a 10-0 win over host Churubusco Wed-nesday night.

The game was called with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning due to rain.

Kindra Stetzel had a triple among her three hits, and Emma Garriott doubled and drove in three runs. Emma West and Lydia Greet had a pair of hits each for the Squires.

Torina Runkel was credited with a complete game in the pitching circle, allowing just one hit while striking out four.

Next up for Manchester is a home non-conference game with Wawasee Friday night.



Squires Outshoot Wabash

NORTH MANCHESTER – Manchester boys golf won their first dual match of the year against Wabash at Sycamore Golf Course Wednesday, 174 - 195.

Leading the Squires was junior Harley Kruschwitz with a two-under par score of 34. He birdied his first hole and his last hole to go alone with seven steady pars on a night where conditions were not the best.

Freshman Owen Kruschwitz was not far behind with a 39 in the first match of his career. Senior Konrad Borgmann shot 49, junior Klayton Hendrix followed with a 52 and senior Mathias Mclaughlin rounded out the top five with a 53.

Manchester’s remaining scores on the evening were Logan Parrett with a 54, Hunter Klutz and Connor Lauer with 56 and Jackson Austin with a 59.

Manchester travels to Fort Wayne to compete in the Northrop Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday at Colonial Oaks Golf Club.



Triton Linksters Down Bremen, LaVille

PLYMOUTH – Beau Hepler shot a 39 at Swan Lake Golf Course Wednesday, leading Triton to a pair of non-conference wins. The Trojans posted a team score of 163 to LaVille’s 200 and Bremen’s 210.

Chase Butler was a shot behind Hepler for medalist honors, with Cole McKinney a shot behind Butler with a 41. John Gardner posted a 43 and Keegan Westafew a 46 to round out the scoring.

The Trojan junior varsity rolled to a pair of wins as well, shooting a 180 to Bremen’s 257 and LaVille’s 264.

Next up for Triton is a home Hoosier North Athletic Conference match with Culver Community today.
