BOURBON – Tippecanoe Valley used big innings in both games of a baseball doubleheader to roll to a sweep of Triton in non-conference play Saturday.

The Vikings won the opener 18-3 and the nightcap 19-1, both in five innings, over the host Trojans.

In game one, Valley scored 11 times in the fourth to blow open a 5-3 game. Layne Prater was the winning pitcher for Valley, giving up a pair of hits and two earned runs. Tucker Shull homered, Payton Miller had three hits, and Prater, Ethan Davis and Braxton Davis added a pair of hits each for the Vikings.

In game two, the Trojans took an early 1-0 lead after one inning before the Vikings put up 10 runs in the top of the second. Wes Melanson had a 4-for-4 effort at the plate, with Prater, Yates and Drake Montelongo recording two hits each.

Valley improved to 2-1 on the year and will host Warsaw in non-conference play Wednesday.  Triton (0-2) will travel to Plymouth for a 4:30 p.m. Thursday game with the Pilgrims.

Triton Softball Sweeps DH


ARGOS – Recovering quickly from a blowout loss to Rochester Friday night, Triton swept a softball doubleheader from Argos Saturday.

The Trojans rolled to a 22-4 victory in game one before recording an 8-7 come-from-behind victory in game two.

The Trojans blew open a close game in the opener, scoring five times in the sixth and erupting for nine runs in the seventh and final inning. Abbey Viers doubled twice, singled and tripled, scored four times and drove in five for Triton.

Madeline Doll scored four times and drove in a pair of runs, and Skyla Wilson scored five runs.

Triton trailed by two heading to the top of the seventh inning in game two before getting a two-run triple from Jolie Groves to take the lead. Groves and Doll had three hits each, and Wilson tripled and drove in a pair of runs.

Erin Ogle was the winning pitcher in both games.

Now 2-2, Triton will host Tippecanoe Valley today, with first pitch set for 5 p.m.



Squires Sweep Caston

NORTH MANCHESTER – With one game a blowout and the other a close contest, Manchester swept a baseball doubleheader from visiting Caston in non-conference play Saturday.

An 11-run second inning led to a 19-4 win in game one, and the Squires took a 4-2 decision in game two.

Thane Creager, Korbin Hensley and Mason Meyer had two hits each in the opener; Creager and Kam Lester both doubled. Grant Strobel was the winning pitcher in the run-rule shortened game.

Meyer doubled twice, drive in a run and scored a run for the Squires in game two. Devin Marcum had a pair of singles, and Strobel, Michael Learned and Mason Roberts had one RBI each.

Roberts was the winning pitcher, tossing a complete game while allowing six hits and one earned run in seven innings of work.

The Squires return to action Wednesday, hosting Taylor at 5:30 p.m. in a non-conference game.
