ATWOOD – The Atwood Lions Club is planning its third Jonah fish fry of the year for Wednesday.

As one of its goals to help other nonprofits in the area, the Lions are providing space at the fry for the Salvation Army. Donations of paper and hygiene products for the needy will be accepted. In addition, the Salvation Army Auxiliary will be selling a variety of nuts.

Visitors to the fry may bring items such as toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, toothpaste, toothbrushes, body soap, shampoo, hand creams, chapstick, deodorants, razors and other items. Donations will also be accepted of Mr. Clean, Lysol, dish soap, laundry soap, bleach, fabric softeners, Comet cleanser, toilet bowl cleaners/brushes, vinegar, etc.

Anyone who is able is encouraged to fill a new bucket with any of the donated items. Also, anyone who has any tips for washing windows or cleaning the stove top or the inside of a refrigerator is asked to write it on a card and put it with their supplies.

“These items are so, so appreciated by the recipients,” say organizers. “It's incredible how grateful they can be.”

The fish fry will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Atwood Community Building. Cost is $9 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-11. People are welcome to eat in or go through the drive-thru.

Other fish fries are planned Aug. 14 and Sept. 11.

The Lions have been hosting fish fries since the Community Building was opened in 1962.
