AKRON – The Bell Trophy is back in Akron.

The Tippecanoe Valley football team pulled off a comeback victory, 13-7 over conference rival Class 2A No. 11 Rochester Friday in a home game.

“It’s a big win for the program,” said Valley coach Steve?Moriarty. “It’s been five years since we beat a ranked team, and to finally get back on the winning streak again the way we used to be is very big.”

After a scoreless first half, Rochester (6-1, 2-1 TRC) punched in the ball in the third quarter.

There were less than five minutes to play, and the?Vikings still hadn’t scored.

That all changed when Valley quarterback Noah Miller’s pass was tipped by Alex Morrison in the end zone and caught by Jace Potter to put the Vikings on the board.

Valley (4-3, 3-1 Three Rivers Conference North) sealed the win with 18 seconds left.

After another Miller pass was tipped, this time from Potter to Morrison at the Rochester 1-yard line, Wes Melanson ran in the ball for the touchdown and victory.

Trojans Earn Road Win

BOURBON – Triton outlasted North Judson for the win Friday.

The Trojans’ football team defeated the Bluejays in a back-and-forth Hoosier North Athletic Conference home game.

“(The win) shows that we’re progressing and we’re doing some things,” said Triton coach Ron Brown.

The?Trojans and Bluejays ended the first quarter tied 14-14, and North Judson took the lead on Chuckie Wilcox’s touchdown run in the second.

Triton responded with a score by Ethan Berry, but the Bluejays answered right back when Wilcox hauled in a 22-yard pass from Caden Peretti.

The Trojans picked up steam late in the first half when Delano Shumpert laid out for what Brown called a “Superman catch” on a pass from James Snyder to tie the score at 29 heading into the second half.

Brown credited his defense with shutting down North Judson in the second half, while Snyder’s 52-yard strike to Tye Orsund proved to be all the?Trojans needed to win.

Brown was proud of his players’ ability to adapt to new positions in the wake of injuries.

“They stepped it up and played well,” he said. “I was proud of their performance tonight.”
