I strongly support Dee Moore for Indiana House of Representatives District 18 and encourage every voter in District 18 to vote for her in the Nov. 6 general election. Her grassroots positions value honesty, transparency, inclusion, embracing justice, common sense, constitutional rights and caring for others as she would want to be treated.

Dee is a seventh-generation family farmer for 40 years. She supports policies that will save our state and planet’s water, soil, air and climate for the next seven generations. They practice no-till planting and fall cover crops for soil health, keeping nutrients in soils, not running downstream. She prioritizes green energy, including solar and wind, and would like to see solar panels made in Indiana instead of China. In fact, she wants to incentivize these renewable energy sources because, in the long run, it will be cheaper for Indiana and its residents than cleanup and other costs from weather storms and disasters which, by the way, are increasing in intensity due to climate change.

She supports $15 minimum wage and will “Fight for $15” at every opportunity. Hoosiers should not have to work two or three jobs just to be able to pay the heat bill and put food on their table. It is not progress when full-time workers qualify for assistance with food stamps, housing and Medicaid because of their extremely low income. A livable wage of $15 per hour will be a good start at progress. Again, in the long run, when workers make more money and can really take care of their families, less government assistance is needed.

Believing public schools are the foundation of our democracy, admitting and educating all students, Dee will vote to keep Indiana tax dollars supporting public education, not siphoned off to private schools that do not accept all students. Private schools are bankrupting our educational system; the owners still receive our state tax dollars, even though they are not held to the same standards as public schools.

Health care is a right to life and mental health is as essential as physical health. Dee will vote to fund more mental health centers and will support inclusive coverage for mental health conditions that affect our lives and our productivity, just like we deal with physical health issues such as broken bones or diabetes. The opioid problem is a health crisis that must be funded, not a crime. We are the only developed country in the world that does not treat health care as a “right to life.” Insurance companies and others continue to earn record profits while Hoosiers become bankrupt and homeless because of inability to pay medical bills.

Her opponent believes any woman ever seeking an abortion should be criminalized with no exceptions. Dee believes we must “understand the difference between a healthy loving relationship resulting in pregnancy and a serial rapist impregnating an underage child. One is love, the other is not. God is love, not hate.” Dee will fight for women’s access to health care without government interference inside every woman’s body.

Dee will back security checks for all people for all types of guns, and would vote to ban assault weapons and limit magazines with high capacity. She basically believes the same platform as March for Our Lives and Moms Demand Action. Banning the sale of assault rifles, of high-capacity magazines and having universal background checks for every gun sold will also make our schools safer. She wants Hoosiers to remember that hunting will not be impaired or infringed — as hunters don’t use those kinds of weapons.

Hate crime legislation is extremely important to Dee and she believes it is needed to show the world Indiana is not a state of hate and bigotry. Indiana is one out of only five states without a hate crimes law. It is well past time for Indiana to appreciate its diversity.

Dee knows that Indiana relies on our immigrant population in many areas of our workforce. Diversity is strength, not a weakness for her, because she understands that most of us, excepting Native Americans of course, are immigrants to this nation. She will act to keep families together and our economy strong.

If you agree with her values of compassion, justice and wise spending of tax dollars, I ask you to vote for Dee Moore for Indiana House District 18. Please visit her at www.facebook.com/District18DeservesMoore to learn more.
