By Staff Report-
The grant totals $50,000 and will assist with the addition of equipment, which includes a pole vault landing system, high jump bars, portable bleachers, wrestling mats with storage systems and a wall scoreboard with consoles.
This equipment will allow WCS to host indoor track meets, tournaments and athletic camps.
The construction of the Student Activity Center began in the spring and is underway on the Warsaw Community High School campus.

The project was conceptualized following a realization for the need of significant change in order to promote the wellness of students, staff and the community, according to a news release from WCS. This recognition resulted from the WCS strategic planning process. After reviewing interviews and feedback sessions with internal and external stakeholders to determine how WCS could improve upon its mission statement, it became clear the theme with highest consistency and urgency was the wellness of students within all buildings, the release states. A total of 73 percent of respondents put student wellness as a top priority within the district.
Following these discoveries, WCS began to increase focus on student wellness through the development of a Strategic Planning Acceleration Team, which focused on holistic student and staff wellness and began the planning stages of the Student Activity Center. Unfortunately, current WCS facilities were not capable of fully meeting the wellness needs of students, staff and the community. However, through the creation of the Student Activity Center, WCS will be equipped with a designated space for wellness within the district.
“We appreciate the partnership we have with Warsaw Community Schools,” said 1st Source Bank City President Doug Baumgardner. “This donation for the Student Activity Center is a way we can support the school’s efforts to impact students, staff and the community. We are glad to support their ongoing efforts.”
“We are extremely thankful for the continued partnership and support from 1st Source Bank. Their local presence has assisted WCS on many projects this past year including the implementation of cost-saving solar fields on our school campuses,” said WCS Superintendent Dr. David Hoffert. “The aforementioned partnership has also assisted WCS in continuing the funding of educational and wellness activities for both students and faculty. In addition to monetary support, 1st Source Bank employees have also given the gift of their time through several volunteer efforts such as the United Way reading program and Junior Achievement. This gift toward the Student Activity Center is a visual representation of their continued commitment and partnership to our schools.”
