Grace Roundup: Men's Tennis Team Takes Care Of Trine

ANGOLA – The Grace College men’s tennis team won short-handed against Trine 6-3 Thursday.

The Lancers (5-4) have won four of their past five matches to re-establish a winning record.

Grace beat the Thunder (3-2) despite playing without Pavle Popovic, who was given a day off after falling sick on Wednesday.

Max Rozas won at both No. 1 singles (6-1, 6-0) and No. 1 doubles (8-5). Diego Zamora teamed up with Rozas for their win at No. 1 doubles, and Zamora also claimed a 6-2, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles.

Caleb Yoder had a part in two wins. He won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles, and he joined forces with Jacob Gray to win 8-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Lucas Fonseca also claimed a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles.

“We had several guys step up as Pavle needed the day off. Max and Diego both had great performances, and Caleb Yoder showed his experience in a big way,” said Grace head coach Andy Lewis.

The Lancers continue Crossroads League Saturday with a road match at Taylor.



Women’s Tennis

ADRIAN, Mich. – Grace’s women’s tennis team shut out Adrian College on the road Thursday.

The Lady Lancers (8-2) blasted Adrian 9-0 without No. 1 singles and doubles’ player Emily Mast.

Grace got off to a fast start by winning all three doubles points. Carrie Copeland and Molly Fitzpatrick earned an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles.

Jenna Jackson and Jayna Armstrong won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, and Morgan Mast and Shelby Bankson were victorious 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.

Armstrong did not drop a game at No. 3 singles, and Morgan Mast won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. Bankson picked up a fast 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles, and Jackson also won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles.

Copeland (5-7, 6-3, 10-4) at No. 1 singles and Fitzpatrick (6-1, 1-6, 10-4) at No. 4 singles each battled to a three-set victory in singles to complete the sweep.

The Lady Lancers jump back into Crossroads League play  Saturday at Taylor.
