Kosciusko County Extension Chorus
The Kosciusko County Extension Chorus began its 2018-19 rehearsal season Sept. 10.
The chorus is a member club of the Kosciusko County Extension Homemakers. On the state level, it is an active participant of Melody Makers of lndiana Association. The MMIA state organization celebrated its 10th anniversary in June 2015 at Purdue University. Before that, the state chorus was part of Purdue Music Organization.
The state group is directed by Dr. Scott Buchanan of lndiana State University. For more information, visit melodymakersofindiana.com.
The local chorus is directed by Dan Beam. Rehearsals are the second, fourth and fifth Mondays of the month, September through May, at the Robin Hood Community Center at Grace Village. Those who enjoy singing may contact Beam at 574-269-6763 for more information.
Kosciusko County Extension Chorus is a not-for-profit organization and is available for entertaining.
Altrusa International Of Warsaw
Altrusa International of Warsaw club members received an update from CASA’s program manager, Janelle Meyer, at their meeting Sept. 6.
Meyer gave background information about the original establishment of CASA, which took place in Seattle, Wash. Now in 49 states, CASA has been active in Kosciusko County since 1992, when the first volunteer class graduated locally. Meyer and CASA Board member Angie Ritchie reminded Altrusans that volunteers represent children in the county juvenile courts for abuse, custody and neglect cases. This past year the team served in 69 cases involving over 150 children in ages birth through 18. She encouraged club members to support CASA by becoming a volunteer, attending or supporting CASA events and by spreading the word about what CASA does.
Altrusans, led by past president Anne Dorgan, worked with Judge Burner to established CASA in Kosciusko County in 1992.
Altrusa members are finalizing plans for the 2018 Bingo for Beaman Home, to be held Oct. 18 at Wyndham Gardens Banquet Facility, 2517 E. Center St., Warsaw. For the fourth straight year the event has already sold out. All event proceeds benefit programs and services of the Beaman Home.
Beaman Home, founded by Altrusa, has served domestic violence victims and their dependent children in Kosciusko, Fulton and Marshall Counties since 1985.
The club will meet at noon Oct. 4 at KREMC, 370 S. 250 E., Warsaw. Individuals interested in serving the community are encouraged to attend the meeting.
Wednesday Night Bridge
The Wednesday Night Bridge group had six tables this week, with Janet and John Wagley are hostess and host.
Winners were Andy Overmeyer, Sharon Tuttle, Kathy Clary, Judy Stewart, Tom Anderson, John Wagley and Sharon Holtz.
Bridge players are welcome to the weekly meetings. If interested call Janet Wagley at 574-268-1330.
Winona Literary Club
The Winona Literary Club met Wednesday for the first meeting of the fall season of its 115th year.
President Paula Ibach welcomed 25 members and two guests. Mary Jane Schmitt led the group in the collect. Phyllis Borkholder introduced the speaker, Janelle Deatsman from Maple Leaf Farms, who gave an informative talk on the history and various aspects of the local business.
Nancy Wuthrich reported on a number of cards sent to members over the summer.
Ibach thanked the hostess committee and Ed and Karolyn for preparing the coffee and tea.
Four Seasons Ladies Bridge
WINONA LAKE — The Four Seasons Ladies Bridge group met Wednesday at Grace Village.
Winners were Erma Swank, ?Liz Frazetta, Maxine Harris and Peg Zimmerman.
Harris was hostes.
North Webster Community Center SPEC
NORTH WEBSTER — The bridge results for the Senior Prime Enrichment Center this week have been announced.
On Thursday, Barb Kieper was first and Jean Cowan was second.
Grace Thursday Bridge
Grace Thursday Bridge met this week with Joyce Latta as hostess.
Winners were Betty Walston, Latta and Nancy Dalton.
Singles Meeting Friends
Nine attended Wednesday’s meeting of Singles Meeting Friends. They visited as some ate dinner, then there were some six-player euchre games
Donald brought instructions on how to play “hand & foot" card game. He will teach it to the group soon.
Susanne went on a minitrip to the Ark Encounter in Kentucky. She plans on going to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, as well as the locks at Sault Ste. Marie.
Tom T. is going out west for a few weeks to see the buffalo roundup before they put them out to pasture for the winter. He plans to take pictures to show the group when he returns.
Donald and Donna are leaving in October for their places in Florida. Others are also making plans to head south for the winter.
Catherine is feeling better and was able to join the group again.
