Multiple suspects face charges following 3 home burglaries

Several men are facing burglary and theft charges after allegedly breaking into three homes in August.

One of those men, Justin Billy Ottinger, 34, of 3520 N. CR 900W, Cromwell, was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:24 p.m. Sunday for burglary of a dwelling. His preliminary bond was set at $12,000.

Court documents filed Oct. 17 list the charges against him as burglary, a level 4 felony; and theft, a level 6 felony.

On Aug. 18, victim No. 1 reported to a Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department deputy that sometime between Aug. 17 and 18, unknown subjects broke into his attached garage and stole an air compressor, photogenic light, ammunition box and two extension cords. Value of the items was more than $750.

On Aug. 20, victim No. 2 told another deputy that sometime between Aug. 19 and 20, unknown subjects entered his home and he noticed items had been moved into his residence. He said a battery box, Dell memory box, checks and memory cards were stolen. Value of the stolen items was more than $750.

On Aug. 30, another deputy met with victim No. 3, who said sometime on Aug. 30, unknown subjects entered his home through a sliding glass door and removed multiple firearms, compound bow, digital camera, crossbow, zero-turn lawnmower and a string trimmer from the home. Value of the items was more than $750.

Officers learned there were stolen items at Ottinger’s residence in Noble County. They obtained a search warrant and searched the home. In the residence, officers found the items taken from victim No. 2. Officers also found the air compressor taken from victim No. 1 and the crossbow and string trimmer stolen from victim No. 3’s home.

Ottinger admitted to deputies that Scott Noble, Chandler Hyndman, Jake Stadham and he burglarized victim No. 3’s home and stole items, according to court documents.

Hyndman admitted the four of them burglarized victim No. 3’s home. They stole the lawnmower and were driving it down the road, but it was going slow so they pulled it into the weeds. Officers located it in the weeds where Hyndman said it was.

Hyndman also said he and Noble burglarized victim No. 1’s residence and stole the air compressor, and he and Noble burglarized victim No. 2’s residence and stole items.

Officers searched Noble’s residence and found items stolen from victim No. 1’s home, as well as items stolen from victim No. 2.

Noble, 26, of 14290 U.S. 6, Syracuse – who is facing charges related to an arson in Milford in July – also is facing three counts of burglary, level 4 felonies; and three counts of theft, level 6 felonies.

Hyndman, 22, of 1833 N. Ind. 5, Cromwell, is facing three counts of burglary, level 4 felonies; and three counts of theft, level 6 felonies.

No court documents on Stadham had been filed as of this morning.
