WINAMAC – The Triton football team is one step away from sectional hardware.

The Trojans trounced Winamac 48-18 Friday to advance to the Class 1A Sectional 41 title game against North Judson.

The game was close in the first half, with the Trojans up 14-7 after the first quarter and up 14-10 headed into the break.

Coach Ron Brown said that’s when Triton decided to take control of the game.

“I just think we were able to talk about some of the things that Winamac was doing, and make some adjustments at halftime,” Brown said. “(We revisited) some of our schemes from throughout the week, and our kids made plays.”

Playmaking was aplenty in the third quarter. Quarterback James Snyder ran 17 yards for a touchdown early in the third, and midway through the quarter Delano Shumpert scored his first of two touchdowns.

He added the second with another rushing score with nine seconds left in the third, allowing Triton to head into the final quarter up 34-10.

The?Trojans scored two more times in the fourth, including a 20-yard touchdown pass from Snyder to Tye Orsund early in the quarter and a 10-yard run by Hunter McIntyre.

Ethan Berry scored both of Triton’s first-half touchdowns, including a scamper 64 yards to pay-dirt for a lead the Trojans never relinquished.

Brown credited the offensive line with strong play, as well as D’Angelo Shumpert with some stellar run-blocking.

“(It was) a nice, total team effort,” Brown said. “I’m really pleased with how the guys played tonight.”

Berry finished with 117 yards on 11 carries, while Snyder threw for 218 yards.

Triton (8-3) will play at North Judson (6-5) Friday in the sectional championship.

The Trojans defeated North Judson on the road in Week 7, but aren’t taking the Bluejays lightly.

“We’re looking to come in and get prepared and take care of business,” Brown said. “And come up with a great gameplan, reach our final, big goal that we feel like we need to meet.”
