SYRACUSE – Mike Eshbach said Wednesday he stepped down from his position as the Wawasee football coach.

He went 4-16 in two seasons with the Warriors.

Eshbach emphasized that the resignation was his decision, and was made for family reasons. He said he wanted his children, Evan and Emily Eshbach, to have a fresh start at DeKalb High School.

Evan Eshbach was the starting quarterback for Wawasee this year, and was the Times-Union Athlete of the Week after throwing for 454 yards and five touchdowns against Elkhart Memorial in Week 7.

Evan Eshbach will play basketball at DeKalb, while Emily Eshbach will swim.

Wawasee said in a news release that Eshbach will continue to teach at Wawasee High School.
