ATWOOD — The Atwood Lions Club recently presented their annual monetary gifts to The Beaman Home and Madison and Mentone schools for a total of $3,700.

Several programs at the schools benefit from Lions Club donations.

Madison’s Boomerang Backpack program received $1,000 from the Lions. This program assures that students receive two meals a day over the weekend.

Madison and Atwood elementaries each received $100 for meal assistance, which makes sure students who do not have lunch money can receive a hot meal at school.

Each school also received $500 for its school nurse fund. The nurse program allows purchase of necessary clothing like socks, long-sleeve tops or sweat pants needed for warmth or possibly a change while at school. Other purchases can be made for care of students as needed.

The Atwood Lions donate to both school systems because students from the Atwood area are divided between them.

“We have found a real need in schools where just a little extra money to fill a need can make a world of difference in the day of some less fortunate student, said Clair Milleman, Atwood Lions president.

The Lions donated $1,000 to The Beaman Home, which helps victims of domestic violence.

Funds for these projects come from community support of five Jonah Club fish fries throughout the year.
