Feed My Starving Children Warsaw Mobilepack Meets Fundraising Goal

By Staff Report-

The organizing committee for the Feed My Starving Children (FMSC) Warsaw Mobilepack announced it met its goal of raising $220,000 to enable the community to pack 1 million meals for children around the world.

With each meal costing 22 cents, the fundraising efforts still become daunting when faced with a goal of packing 1 million meals, according to a news release from the Warsaw Mobilepack.

Holli Deloe, fundraising chairperson, said, “We are blessed to have SYM Financial, Zimmer Biomet and The Downtown Eatery & Spirits as the lead sponsors this year. We could not do this event without the support of organizations in this community. Our efforts have centered around collaboration. We have often turned to the powerful words of Helen Keller who said, ‘Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.’ Many other community businesses, churches and individuals became official sponsors this year. A full list of sponsors is available at warsawmobilepack.com.”

Five thousand community volunteers will be needed to accomplish the goal of packing 1 million mannapack meals, the largest community service project of the year. Registration to pack meals opened on Sept. 25 and thousands of spots have already been filled.

The FMSC Warsaw Mobilepack team is excited about nearly 2,500 local Warsaw Community School sstudents participating in the world hunger service project, the release states.

Event Chair Megan Stone said, “The need is tremendous. Giving our local students an opportunity to be involved in an event that has an impact on fellow children in need is a great lesson for these kids to learn at an early age. It is a significant opportunity to build global awareness while helping to strengthen empathy and philanthropy within our own community.  These kids raise money in their classrooms and look forward to participating in this event.”

According to Vicky Decker, volunteer coordinator, many of the weekday spots have already filled up but there are sessions still available on Friday night, Oct. 19, and Saturday morning, Oct. 20. If community members have not signed up yet, this is an opportunity to gather youth groups, church groups, civic organizations or just a fun group of family and friends to pack meals. Registration is open at warsawmobilepack.com. Everyone ages 5 and up is welcome.

The event often packs a surplus of meals. If anyone wants to make a donation to cover these meals, donations are still be accepted on the website.
