Blessing Of The Pets Tonight At Otterbein

ATWOOD — Otterbein United Methodist Church is doing something for pets and pet owners this fall.

Oct. 4 is the traditional feast day of Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals. Otterbein UMC will celebrate a blessing of the pets at 7 p.m. Thursday. The service serves as a reminder that God created and cares about pets as well as the rest of creation.

In addition people are asked to share their blessings with the Animal Welfare League of Kosciusko County, which works to help unwanted and abused animals of Kosciusko County. Those who attend the blessing of the pets may bring a supply donation for the shelter to give during the offering. Donations are not necessary for a pet to be blessed.

Requested items include paper towels/toilet paper/facial tissues, germicidal wet wipes, hand sanitizer, bleach, liquid dish soap, liquid laundry soap, dog/cat wet/dry food, dog/cat treats/toys, and dog/cat leashes/collars. Reams of copy paper and ball point pens, as well as financial donations for the Animal Welfare League, are also appreciated.

The service will take place behind the church and is casual. Pet owners are asked to make sure animals are under control and to make provisions for “accidents.”

Otterbein UMC is at 306 E. Main St. (Old 30), Atwood. For more information, call 574-858-2291 or email [email protected]
