Wayne Township Trustee

Mrs. Bruner recently explained that the levy for Wayne township has gone down. That's great! What I didn't hear was why we still are taking in an excess over what is needed.

We still have 1.24 million in the bank that hasn't been used. No matter the amount of levy, we are still taking in more than we are spending. I'm not saying it should necessarily be cut if it is doing good for the community. If you are going to take it, use it and use it well.

Further, I am not a Democrat. Why is my questioning of how the funds are spent being turned into a political football? Either the money is collected and  spent in an efficient and proper manner or it is not.

Republicans have generally done a good job locally, but let's not fool ourselves into complacency and act like everything has been perfect. We have just come through a major controversy and crisis in confidence over the issue in law enforcement.

Happily, this seems to be behind us and I am confident that Kyle Dukes will  heal that situation. We have had a major theft take place in the city as the street superintendent defrauded city government of hundreds of thousands of dollars. There are more instances, but there is no reason to belabor the obvious.

My point is, I don't care who is doing the job as long as it is being done right. Playing partisan politics where all the office holders are of one party is disingenuous. It sometimes gives people "cover" for doing an inadequate job. The trustee, whomever that is, now or future, needs to remember that they provide assistance for people regardless of party affiliation. Everyone pays taxes, everyone deserves service. Everyone.
