‘An Organist’s Christmas’ Is Dec. 9 At First United Methodist

“An Organist’s Christmas” featuring Aaron Tan and the Lakeland Youth Chorale is planned for 2:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at Warsaw First United Methodist Church.

The concert is sponsored by the Rodeheaver Series for the Performing Arts. Music on the Goulding & Wood Pipe Organ and the Steinway piano will include selections from Bach, Distler, Rachmaninoff, Monnikendam and selections from “The Nutcracker.”

Tan is studying at The Institute of Sacred Music at Yale University and serves as Organ Scholar at the Church of the Resurrection, New York City. His classical repertoire and thoughts on music’s place in worship as a means of “directing people’s minds and spirits to God” can be found at aarontan.org.

The Lakeland Youth Chorale, created in 2000, has grown to three choirs: Piccolo Singers for grades 3-5, Vivace for grades 6-7 and Inner Voices for grades 8-10. The choirs perform a variety of music.

There is no admission charge to the concert, but donations would be appreciated. Handicap accessibility is through the church’s north entrance (behind Lake City Bank).

Christmas Cantata Planned For Dec. 9 In North Manchester

NORTH MANCHESTER – The Christmas cantata “Night of the Father’s Love” will be presented at 7 p.m. Dec. 9 at North Manchester United Methodist Church.

This rendition of the Christmas story will be sung by the church’s Chancel Choir and was composed by Pepper Choplin. Terry McKee is the director, and Jim Smith and Angie Briner are the narrators. The cantata will feature vocalists and instrumentalists from the community and Manchester University.  

Christmas treats in the fellowship hall will follow the concert.

The church is at 306 E. Second St., North Manchester.  



Chain Gang Barbershop Quartet Singing Sunday At Dutchtown

Dutchtown Brethren Church will host the Chain Gang Barbershop Quartet at 6 p.m. Sunday.  

The Chain Gang – Jerry Frush, Jim Geller, Mike Lewis and Phil Randall – has been singing together for over 10 years.  These men seek to be examples of what God’s grace and forgiveness can do in the lives of individuals.

The concert of four-part harmonies will include classic Christmas songs. There is no cost to attend.

Refreshments will follow the concert.

Dutchtown Brethren Church is at the corner of CR 300N  and CR 400E, Warsaw.



‘Oh Bah Humbug’ Message At Claypool United Methodist

CLAYPOOL – Claypool United Methodist Church will have a reading for the Advent service Sunday.

Pastor Mike will bring the message of "Oh Bah Humbug."

Sunday school is at 9 a.m. and church is at 10:20 a.m. Everyone is welcome.



Hall Family Concert Planned Saturday At Pierceton UMC

PIERCETON – An evening with the Hall family and others is planned at Pierceton United Methodist Church at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Hall family has performed an uplifting mix of harmonies for many years. Along with the Hall family, the evening will include some local talent.  The public is invited.  

Pierceton United Methodist, 502 N. First St, is handicapped-accessible, with parking in the rear of the church.  



Service Of Lessons And Carols Dec. 7 At Manchester University

NORTH MANCHESTER – Manchester University will present A Service of Lessons and Carols on Dec. 7.

The free traditional event will take place at 7 p.m. and will feature the Cantabile, Chamber Singers and A Cappella Choir. It will be at the Manchester Church of the Brethren, 1306 Beckley St., North Manchester.

There will also be a silent stocking auction.

What I haven’t heard mentioned are the eleven towers scattered across it - eleven towers that you have to till, plant, and harvest around. Heaven forbid you hit one.
