NORTH WEBSTER – Bridge results from the Senior Prime Enrichment Center this week:
On Tuesday, Jerry Hetrick was first.
Jean Cowan and Barb Hetrick tied for second.
Wednesday Night Bridge
WINONA LAKE – On a chilly evening at Grace Village, a few hardy players had some interesting hands of bridge this week.
One grand slam was bid and made.
Winners were Bob Mayer, Peggy Wilson, Andy Overmeyer and Virginia Horn. Mayer was the host.
The next scheduled game will be at 6 p.m. Nov. 28. New players are welcome.
Four Seasons Ladies Bridge
Four Seasons Ladies Bridge met Wednesday at Grace Village. Erma Swank was hostess.
Winners were Peg Zimmerman, Sharon Holtz, Elaine Tripp and Pauline Holderman.
Frances Slocum Chapter, DAR
WABASH – The monthly meeting of the Frances Slocum Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) took place on Tuesday at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Activity Room, Wabash. Two guests were welcomed: Elizabeth Macinata, Wabash, and new member Nancy Tiger, North Manchester.
The meeting opened with the DAR ritual. Devotions were about Veterans Day. Joyce Joy shared the November president general's message from Ann Turner Dillon.
The National Defender Report was about a Purple Heart medal “Lost in Time.” While browsing through an antique shop, an old Purple Heart was found belonging to Watson Watts. Originally it was called a Commendation Certificate for a Wounded Soldier signed by Woodrow Wilson. The medal was not awarded During World War I; however, it was reinstated in 1932, being retroactive to include the veterans of that war. Watts’ grave was located in Little Obion Cemetery, Wingo, Graves County, Ky.; a DAR member visited and placed flowers and a poppy there.
The Indian Committee Minute was given by Avonne Lee Knecht on the 1838 Potawatomi Trail of Death to Osawatomie, Kan. The Conservation Minute was on why native plants matter. The Flag Minute was in 1784 the American Flag was nicknamed the “Flower Flag” by the people of China. A Chinese viewer remarked it looked like a beautiful flower.
Correspondence was an invitation to General de Lafayette Chapter’s Christmas dinner on Dec. 11 at the Lafayette County Club. A certificate of appreciation from Army Community Service, U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz, Kaiserslautern, Germany, was receieved for valuable contributions to the Coupon Program in support of the Kaiserslautern Military Community.
Barbara Amiss, regent, gave a report on the Fall Workshop and Fall Forum at The Willows in Indianapolis on Oct. 26-27. Members were saddened to learn of the death of Gladys Hall, 99, Indianapolis, who had been an active member for almost 72 years.
The program was presented by retired U.S. Air Force veteran Melissa Miller. Miller, a registered nurse, expressed her five-year journey during active duty, deployment overseas and Honor Flight.
The next meeting of the Frances Slocum Chapter will be on Jan. 8 at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Activity Room, Wabash. Prospective members and guests are welcome to attend.
Singles Meeting Friends
Only a few braved the cold the last couple of weeks to attend, Nov. 7 at Martin's Super?Market and Wednesday at Vicki's gathering room at her apartment complex.
The group will continue to meet at Vicki's through the winter
The group is planning its Christmas party/dinner for Dec. 15 at Katherine's apartment complex community center. Guests are welcome but are asked to reply with a count to the group email so they have enough meat for the carry-in.
Upcoming events include the Christmas play at Quaker Haven: Christmas On The Air presented by Lake Area Players on Nov. 30, Dec. 1-2 and Dec. 7-8.
Judy is still suffering with issues from her injuries from last last summer's fall. The group was asked to keep her in prayer, as well as doctors trying to resolve her pain.
There was a lot of bragging Wednesday as members talked about their grandchildren and those soon to be born. Some even showed pictures of their cuties.
Winona Literary Club
The Winona Literary Club met Wednesday at the Robin Hood Community Center.
Rose Marie Henning led in reciting the collect and offered prayer.
The speaker was Cindy Cates, executive director, Kosciusko Literacy Services. She spoke on the group’s efforts to spread reading skills starting at young ages.
In the business meeting that followed, members learned that the group exceeded its goal for the Salvation Army collection.
Hostesses Phyllis Borkholder and Alice Miller served refreshments to the 21 members present.
The next meeting will be Dec. 5, the final one for this calendar year.

Grace Thursday Bridge met this week with Sharon Tuttle as hostess.
Winners were Nancy Dalton, Tuttle and June Stealy.
