WINONA LAKE – In a world where 821 million people are undernourished and 6,200 children die every day from undernutrition, the Warsaw community came together in October to make an impact on world hunger through a partnership with the Feed My Starving Children Warsaw MobilePack.
This year, 5,476 community volunteers packed a total of 1,135,296 meals, exceeding the goal of 1 million meals and setting a record for the most meals packed at a Warsaw MobilePack event, according to a news release. The meals were shipped to Haiti through FMSC partner Convey of Hope and Food for the Poor, as well as to Uganda through LeSEA partner Feed The Hungry.
Over 2,500 students from Warsaw Community Schools participated in the MobilePack event in the Gordon Rec Center at Grace College, giving them the opportunity to grow in global awareness, empathy and enriching the lives of others. Multiple generations were represented as families, church groups, office groups, sports teams and thousands of individuals worked together to make an impact on world hunger, the release said.
The Warsaw MobilePack event was made possible by the generosity and support of local business sponsors, school partners, church contributions, and individual donors. Over 60 local event sponsors contributed to the success of this event, including Hunger Impact Sponsors SYM Financial, Zimmer Biomet and Warsaw Community Schools.
The combined efforts and generosity of the Warsaw community helped to fill the stomachs and save the lives of 3,110 children, who otherwise had no hope of being fed. Those who participated said they felt blessed by the opportunity to serve others in critical need and felt a sense of community by working hand-in-hand with their neighbors on this mission work.
The Warsaw MobilePack Steering Committee thanked the Warsaw community for using its time, talent and resources to improve the lives of its global neighbors. Providing over 1 million meals could not have been accomplished without the support of the many business sponsors, donors and individuals who contributed to this effort, according to the release.
