Grace Roundup: Lady Lancers Secure Spot In NAIA Nationals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – For the second time in program history, Grace College’s women’s soccer team secured a spot in the NAIA National Championships.

The Lady Lancers earned the No. 15 seed in the 32-team field and will host an NAIA Opening Round match on Saturday against Eastern Oregon. The time for Saturday’s game at 1st Source Bank Field will be announced at a later time.

Grace is enjoying its best record in program history at 18-3. The Lady Lancers tied for the Crossroads League regular season championship, the first title in team history.

The NAIA field features 16 opening-round matches to kick off the national tournament. The winners of the opening-round matches advance to the final site at the Orange Beach Sportsplex in Orange Beach, Ala.

In Grace’s first appearance in the NAIA Nationals in 2015, the Lady Lancers also hosted an opening-round game. Grace beat Park (Mo.) 2-1 in that game.

Eastern Oregon boasts a 15-2-2 record. The Mountaineers qualified as the regular season champion of the Cascade Collegiate Conference. EOU is making its third appearance in the NAIA Nationals.



Grace Hosts Sportsmanship Summit

WINONA LAKE – Grace College and Director of Athletics Chad Briscoe welcomed student-athletes from the high schools of the Northern Lakes Conference for a Sportsmanship Summit on Monday.

Student-athletes from the NLC schools attended the summit, which was designed to educate student-athletes about sportsmanship and character training in athletics.

"We are pleased to be a part of building character at the high school level through the Sportsmanship Summit," Briscoe said.

"We hope it served as a great opportunity to educate and reinforce character education and to help promote the importance of sportsmanship for each student-athlete."

Student-athletes from the NLC spent the day together working in groups to discuss and challenge one another in sportsmanship and character-building opportunities in the athletic realm. The students worked in team-building opportunities to promote camaraderie among the schools in the conference and create various mission statements for the NLC.

The Sportsmanship Summit featured sessions from Roger Grossman, Joey Graham, CeCe Robinson and Briscoe.



Djordjevic Named Player Of The Week

WINONA LAKE – After playing the part of hero on Saturday, Nikola Djordjevic was honored on Monday.

Djordjevic was named the NCCAA National Offensive Player of the Week for Grace’s men’s soccer team. He scored the game-winning goal in the final minute on Saturday, beating Lancaster Bible 3-2 in the NCCAA regional championship.

He also scored the game-tying goal in the first half for the Lancers, producing his first two goals of the season.

The Lancers will find out their seed and bracket placement for NCCAA Nationals in the coming days. The championships are held in Kissimmee, Fla., starting Nov. 26.
