Claypool Man Arrested After Police Chase

The chase began when Claypool deputy marshal Randy Bays went to make a traffic stop, according to Town Marshal Ben Sanders. The driver was identified as Kenyon Harris, 31, of 110 S. Main St., Claypool, who Sanders said is a habitual traffic violator.
Harris fled the scene of the traffic stop, Sanders said. His vehicle hit a guy wire on a utility pole along CR 900S, but the chase continued until Harris drove to his apartment in Claypool. He exited his vehicle and tried to run inside, but officers tased him at that point.

Harris then got up and ran into his apartment. He exited through the back window of his second-story apartment, and attempted to flee again.
He was finally apprehended by Indiana conservation officers in an empty parking lot.
Sanders said Harris could face charges of driving while being an habitual traffic violator, fleeing and resisting law enforcement using a motor vehicle, reckless driving and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.
Before being booked into the Kosciusko County Jail, Harris was taken by EMS to Kosciusko Community Hospital for medical clearance. He was complaining of hip pain after being tased and jumping out of the second-story window.
Sanders said Harris was in the Kosciusko County Community Corrections program so he likely violated the terms of being in that program.
No officers were hurt in the pursuit.
The Claypool Police Department was assisted by the Silver Lake Police Department, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, Indiana Conservation Officers and Winona Lake Police Department.
