SOUTH WHITLEY — Norma A. Dome, 96, formerly of Sidney, died Tuesday evening, May 15, 2018, at Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, where she had been a resident since November 2015.

She was born Feb. 28, 1922, in Sidney, a daughter of the late Melvin O. and Florence Nichols Heeter. Her formative years were spent in the Sidney area. She graduated from Sidney High School.

On April 24, 1943, she was united in marriage to George Harold Dome. They have always made their home in the Sidney area until becoming residents of Peabody. George died Oct. 31, 2016.

A full-time homemaker raising their four children, she also worked in the library at Whitko Middle School for 18 years.

She was a member of Collamer Christian Church and the Homemakers Extension Club. Family was her priority, and she loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. An avid reader, she enjoyed a wide variety of books. During the growing season, she enjoyed raising flowers. In the fall, she would can jams and jellies.

Surviving are her four children: John H. (Shirley) Dome, Sidney; Ruth Ann Dome, Hyden, Ky.; Thomas (Nancy) Dome, South Whitley; and Nancy (Dennis) Patton, Franklin; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Trilby Heeter; a brother, Gerald Heeter; and two sisters, Erma Fretz and Mildred Priser.

The funeral service is at 1 p.m. Saturday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City. Burial is in South Whitley Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
