Tracksters Compete At Rochester Girls T&F Sectional

ROCHESTER – Rochester hosted the girls track and field sectional on Tuesday night.

Plymouth won the team title with a score of 143. Manchester finished fourth, Tippecanoe Valley was sixth, Triton was seventh and Whitko ended in 10th.

A participant must get in the top three of an event or beat the standard result to move on to the regional meet.

For Manchester, Kailea Kerr finished second in the 400-meter race. Gabbie Brewer finished second in the long jump.

The 4x800-meter relay of Jaelyn Webb, Anna Markham, Maddy Evans and Kendra Kline advanced after a third-place finish.

For the Lady Vikings, Delaney Wagoner moves on in the 800-meter race. The quartet of Alyssa Brito, Caleigh Byrer, Sarah Tucker and Cheyene Oldfather advance in the 4x100. Valeria Jimenez, Sidney Wagner, Brito and Oldfather move on in the 4x400.

Triton’s Abigail Powell had third-place mark in the 100-meter hurdles. Jaela Faulkner finished third in the pole vault with a height of 8 feet, 6 inches. Charlotte Morris moves on in the discus after her throw of 92 feet, 8-1/4 inches, which landed her in third.

Whitko’s Breanna Keirn advances in the 100 and 200-meter sprints. Carissa Beck tallied third in the shot put. She had a toss of 34 feet, 1 inch.

The participants who advance will compete at the Kokomo Regional on Tuesday.

Central Downs Warsaw

ELKHART – Despite out-hitting Elkhart Central 11-10, the Warsaw softball team lost 9-5 on Tuesday.

The Lady Tigers were ahead 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning, but a three-run home run from Central changed that.

The Lady Blazers were able to add two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth and pulled away.

Warsaw’s Courtney Chookie took the loss. She pitched three innings, allowed eight hits, struck out four and walked one.

Lindsey Bradley and Katie Anderson both had three hits for the Lady Tigers.

Warsaw plays at Elkhart Memorial on Thursday. First pitch is at 5 p.m.

Whitko Cruises Past Maconaquah

BUNKER HILL – After a slow start, the Whitko softball team poured it on late and won 13-1 over Maconaquah on Tuesday.

The Lady Wildcats scored three runs in the first three innings. In the next two, they tallied 10 runs.

Whitko’s Reannon Hopkins led the team with four RBIs. Emmy Duggins, Shi Bradley, Harley Bradley and Hopkins all had two hits.

Ellie Snep got the win in the circle for the Lady Wildcats. She struck out seven batters.

Whitko plays at Tippecanoe Valley tonight.

Hensley Hurls One-Hitter, Leads Triton Over Knox

BOURBON – Dylan Hensley threw a complete-game one-hitter for the Triton baseball team on Tuesday. The Trojans won 7-0 over Knox on senior night.

Over the seven innings of the Hoosier North Athletic Conference matchup, Hensley allowed one walk and struck out 13 batters.

At the plate, Hensley had two hits and three RBIs. Nate Stinson had two hits.

Max Slusser and Keygan Mosier both had a double for Triton.

The Trojans host South Bend Riley on Thursday at 5 p.m.

Wawasee’s Late Rally Not Enough Against Fairfield

SYRACUSE – The Wawasee baseball team lost 3-2 to Fairfield on Tuesday.

Fairfield was the home team due to moving the game to Wawasee after  poor field conditions at Fairfield.

The Warriors had a late rally in the final two innings. After being down 2-0 in the sixth, Wawasee pushed a run across and then added another in the seventh to tie it.

The Falcons came up in the bottom of the seventh and were able to score and win the game.

Wawasee’s Carter Woody had the lone hit. Jairus Boyer and Jeremiah Bess both had RBIs.

The Warriors host Concord tonight at 5 p.m. in a Northern Lakes Conference battle.

Kruschwitz Medals; Squires Beat North Miami

NORTH MANCHESTER – The Manchester boys golf team won 173-190 against North Miami on Tuesday.

Manchester’s Harley Kruschwitz was the medalist with a 35, shooting 1-under par. Nathan Self and Konrad Borgmann both garnered a score of 44.

Klayton Hendrix shot a 50 and Dylan Brubaker fired a 55 for the Squires.

Manchester plays Tippecanoe Valley and Whitko on Thursday.
