Tigers Win 15-Team Culver Academies Invitational

CULVER – The Warsaw boys golf team won the 15-team Culver Academies Invitational on Saturday.

The Tigers shot a 299, winning by eight strokes over Culver Academies. Wawasee shot a 346.

Warsaw’s Luke Delp was the medalist with a 72. He won in a sudden death playoff with a birdie on the first playoff hole.

Chase Byron shot a 78 for the Tigers, tying for eighth-place individually. Sam Yeager and Tommy Meier both fired a 79. Jacob LaLonde shot an 83.

Warsaw has now won three invitationals in the last two weeks.

Wawasee’s Zach Leedy shot an 80 to lead the team. Dillon Drake carded an 84 and Evan Dippon shot a 97. Jared Krugman (100) and Luke Weisser (104) rounded out the golfers for the Warriors.

Wawasee takes on NorthWood and Plymouth tonight at Pretty Lake Golf Club. The Tigers compete on Tuesday at Stonehenge against Concord and Northridge.



TRC Boys Golf Match

The Three Rivers Conference held its boys golf match on Saturday at Rozella Ford Golf Club.

Peru won by shooting a 340 and Manchester finished second with a 348. Whitko (380) and Tippecanoe Valley (404) finished fifth and ninth, respectively.

Manchester’s Harley Kruschwitz shot an 81 to lead the team and garner all-conference honors. Nathan Self shot an 88 and Klayton Hendrix carded an 89. Konrad Borgmann (90) and Dylan Brubaker (106) rounded out the golfers for the Squires.

For the Wildcats, Kaleb Busz led the team with a 91. Kylar Bryant shot a 94 and Cade Bechtold fired a 95. Dale Reiff (100) and Jonathan Strayer (117) rounded out the golfers for Whitko.

Valley’s Cade Brouyette fired a 78 to receive all conference. Mason Purvis (111), Bryce Madeford (112) and Billy Gillman (132) all competed for the Vikings.

Manchester hosts North Miami and Valley visits Northfield. Both matches are on Tuesday. Manchester, Whitko and Valley compete at the Round Barn Golf Club on Thursday.



Lady Wildcats’ Offense Explodes For 18 Hits

MONROEVILLE – After collecting 18 hits in a six-inning contest, the Whitko softball team won 13-2 over Heritage on Saturday.

Whitko’s Emmy Duggins ripped two home runs and two doubles in the game. Reannon Hopkins had two doubles and a sacrifice bunt.

Shi Bradley and Harley Bradley both had two singles for the Lady Wildcats. Augusta Garr had a double and a single.

Ellie Snep got the win inside the circle for Whitko.

The Lady Wildcats travel to Maconoquah tonight.

Squires Split Twin Bill

HARTFORD CITY – The Manchester baseball team split a doubleheader at Blackford on Saturday.

The Squires won 14-1 in the first game and lost 8-3 in the nightcap.

Hayes Sturtsman crushed two home runs for Manchester in the opener. He had five RBIs in the contest. Mason Roberts had three hits and an RBI. Kaleb Fluke and Mason Meyer both had two hits.

Manchester finished with 14 hits in the game.

Meyer got the win and gave up one run on three hits. He also struck out six and walked two batters.

In the second game, the Squires scored all three runs in the fourth inning.

Grant Strobel, Fluke and Sturtsman all had singles in the inning.

Roberts finished the game with two hits.

Blackford scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to take an 8-3 lead.

Manchester plays at Wabash tonight for a Three Rivers Conference game.

Northern Lakes Holds Tennis Tournament

DUNLAP – The Northern Lakes Conference wrapped up its girls tennis tournament on Friday. Concord won the tournament and the overall championship and Warsaw finished third in the tournament and second overall. Wawasee tied for seventh.

NLC All Conference selections were Liza Lewis (Warsaw) at No. 1 singles, Regan Landis (Concord) at No. 2 and Miranda German (Concord) at No. 3.

McKenzie Scheetz and Leah Smith won at No. 2 doubles for Plymouth, and the duo of Kelsee O’Dell and Lauren Pollock won at No. 2 doubles for Concord.

Ella Knight was At-Large All Conference for Warsaw at No. 2 singles.

Lewis went 3-0 in the tournament. She defeated Maya Klopfenstein in the championship. In the first set, Lewis fell 7-5, but won 6-1 in the second and third sets to claim the title.

Knight lost to Landis in the championship match. Knight won the first set 6-3. In the second set, Landis won 7-5 and won 7-6 in the third, after winning the tiebreaker 8-6 to secure the match.

Alyssa Zellers earned second for Warsaw at No. 3 singles. She lost 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) to German in the title match.

Taylor Schoaf and Rachel Boyle finished sixth at No. 1 doubles for the Lady Tigers. They lost 6-4, 6-2 in the fifth-place match.

Warsaw’s Raegan Merchant and Rachel Yeager had a third-place finish in No. 2 doubles. They won 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 over Riley Graber and Alex Jesse of NorthWood.

For Wawasee, Kendra Doerr finished in sixth place at No. 1 singles. Kennedy Church finished in seventh at No. 3 singles.

Wawasee hosts Whitko tonight at 4:30 p.m. Warsaw begins sectional play on Wednesday.
